No lunch break for kids who work and no heat relief for outdoor workers in TX and FL. These legislators are simply cruel. 😡

    Might be worth having your thyroid checked out. I didn't realize until I had to go on levothyroxine that my thyroid was the cause of my mood swings/panic attacks. Talked with others who told me they had the same issue.

    My primary care doc noticed that my thyroid was slightly enlarged because she has amazing sense of touch and ordered thyroid blood tests run and a thyroid ultrasound. Not sure another doc would have found it during a normal exam.

    1/...McBrien:

    At 2:35 p.m. we have audio again, but still no video, and we hear Merchan say "Thank you, please be seated."

    Merchan welcomes the jurors and starts by apologizing for how chilly it is in the courtroom.

    Video is back on, and both sides are seated in the same seats as this morning

    Merchan proceeds to read the boilerplate instructions for voir dire. Reminder: 30 mins per side

    Is Iran blustering... about targeting Israeli nuke sites?

    Or is this stage one of escalation to war?

    I know. I did read how there were some scammers that called this fellow and said they would be sending someone to pick up a package (sounded rather threatening) then sent this poor woman to pick up the package even though she wasn't a part of the scam. Those scammers should also be charged.

    My husband's college got rid of staff and paid for computer packages that the faculty now have to fill out instead of having staff to do that work. Of course, no training so lots of problems.

    Received a really nice email from a former student tonight.

    He said some nice words. Told me he is having success at a new job and it was due to his work in my class 2 summers ago.

    Awesome to receive feedback.

    Tallest Building in America Gains Planning Commission Approval

    One aspect of the proposal that has residents on edge is the intention of placing LED billboards on the side of the Legend Tower. Residents would need blackout curtains to escape the light pollution. “Out on Lake Draper at night, [there’s] going to be orange and blue flashing through.”

    I'm with 'paw.

    Not a single participant in a Trump-related case (or Hunter Biden's) has avoided life-altering threats. You can't do this to people serving their civic duty.

    Another Lawfare editor has posted a thread—based on pool reports—compiling copious personal identifying information for all six seated jurors. It’s so dangerous, at least as I perceive the character of the movement, I don’t even want to link it. WTF are we doing?

    When my husband was still teaching and required a long term project, he broke it down into segments, ie turn in outline, etc after a week, progress reports every following week that contributed to their grade. It seemed to help most of the students.

    I have discovered that in terms of myself, I procrastinated on subjects in school that I really wasn't interested in but I could really get into subjects that interested me. Grad school in geology was loads of fun & no trouble devoting the time. And when I went back to school in my 40s in totally different subject I was interested in, I really excelled at the work as well. I also tried an anatomy class then which bored me & it was like pulling teeth to study. 😜

    Of course Stitt thinks that the OSDE losing 130 staff is a good thing. 😱

    “So, you’re telling me we’ve lost 130 bureaucrats up here in Oklahoma City and we’ve still got our education system rolling across the state? Sounds like a good thing to me,” the governor said.

    Me: Oklahoma education system is not rolling in fine shape! Just wait til the effect of losing so much federal grant money hits by next year.

    "The head of the IPCC has compared the rollout of carbon capture and storage (#CCS) to "trying to push water uphill," questioning a technology that the oil and gas industry has long touted as integral to net-zero emission plans.

    The International Energy Agency has previously called for the oil and gas industry to let go of the "illusion" that carbon capture is a solution to climate change, pushing instead for energy majors to ramp up investments in clean energy."

    Exxon should be held accountable just like the tobacco companies

    thezenlady,
    @thezenlady@toot.community avatar

    @oldguy52 @CelloMomOnCars

    It took a long time for the tobacco industry to be held accountable after so much damage had been documented, even though secret studies by tobacco companies knew there was cancer risk. I hope the oil/gas industry doesn't take as long to be accountable for climate change. (And Exxon knew from an inhouse report back in 1970s that fossil fuels were directly related to climate change) https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2023/01/harvard-led-analysis-finds-exxonmobil-internal-research-accurately-predicted-climate-change/
