Upon further consideration, I suspect that this young obviously single mother may have developed a postpartum psychological condition where the mother kills their child. Looking at the house in the photo, this is in one of the low income areas of KC, and the family likely couldn't afford good medical care. Now she is charged with a felony. 😢

Folks ask if poor people use face masks...

Imagine yourself at the store counter and you want to pay for your food and you have a box of N95 or KN95 masks - but turns out they cost too much for your monthly allotment.

Do you:
-- remove food from cart?
-- remove masks?

** Seriously - you wonder about that choice?

It should not be a choice!

They deserve healthcare.

How do I know? Because any of us is a moment away from poor - and I still want healthcare if I was there.

I'm curious how many people in your area still wear masks while out in public? I usually only see 1 or 2 other people wearing masks besides myself when I go shopping. And no one wears masks at the zoo where I volunteer. (There are buildings with inside exhibits).

The reason I asked is because "why would the poor even consider buying masks when no one, even staff at my cancer center are not wearing masks?"

Seems like no one is concerned about covid anymore so why need masks?

I had to get a new medicare number because I got caught up in this fraud with my medicare account billed for $6000 of catheters that I don't need and certainly didn't request thru a doctor. I called Medicare to report this. Glad to see this is being investigated.

Yesterday, my grandson played me a song he found on YouTube. It wasn't new to me as I remembered it from my youth. The song sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford was Sixteen Tons. It is interesting that the kids are unearthing folk songs recorded before I was born.
The lyrics prompted a talk about the subject matter. My grandson thought company towns were related to coal mining. I informed him that at least three company towns were operating in Humboldt when I was a kid. I also pointed out that one was recently added to the registry of historic places. I explained that the lumber and agriculture industries found that business model very appealing. It certainly gave the companies maximum control over workers and their families.
I suggested a field trip to visit the towns that I know about here and to make sure the kids are informed about a business practice that I hear is coming back around again.
It is good to have an understanding of such things and how company towns can be used to exploit workers.

I like winter.
I like snow.

I don't like 35-40F Temps turning 1 foot of snow on unplowed streets into heavy wet slush.

I have the undercarriage height to get over it. But I don't have the tires to bust a 2-track through it. I can get down the 2-track that someone else made if the ground does not give way.

If only the temperatures were in the 20s...

Either be winter... or be Spring (Fall).

I simply don't understand why the white house pharmacy should be handing out ketamine, morphine or fentanyl under any circumstance.

As a few states begin to handle an ice storm... let's provide a few tips:

4-wheel drive does not equal 4-wheel stop!

Spinning tires does not equal traction!

Spinning tires faster makes it worse as tires heat up and melts snow / ice into water. Water on ice does not enable friction to be better.

Best option is to not drive on icy roads.

Of course, the folks who need to incorporate these tips - won't.

In preparation for ice storm overnight, I cleared off as much snow from the driveway as I could.

The tire tracks are packed and nothing I can do about that. The rain/ice will soften it - but if it really does ice up - it will be a skating rink out there AND I don't want to be on the road with that.

Same here. We did have about 1/2" ice on trees and power lines, but not enough to bring tree limbs or power lines down.

It's going to get back in the 60's next week!

    No wonder colon cancer is becoming more common in those under 50 (even now those in their 20s and 30s!)

    I still cook from scratch so I know exactly what my husband and I are consuming, not to mention it is cheaper.
