I got a bit of a sore throat last night and had a late night teen parenting incident so no way I was going out this AM to watch at a bar. I was sorely disappointed about that when I started watching given the important of the match but after that showing I am a bit glad I didn’t. Ugh.

An interesting small discovery that is now obvious about is your perception of where your mouth is will be off by a few centimeters. Verified when I was to sip a drink and the cup was at my lips until much later. It’s obvious the cameras and the thickness are to account for that spatial difference. Besides that the pass thru illusion is amazing as I walked around the house, sat with my cat, etc and never noticed much. But near your mouth is an uncanny valley.

Posting this from a bridging my Mac to a 12 foot monitor in space. My impression so far is just wow. The most impressive are the spatial videos. I took my own in Kauai and indeed they are near memories. 3D movies are absolutely insane on it. The battle scene in Rogue One was super intense. People hating on this thing likely haven't used it yet. Yes your eyes will tire (I have prescription inserts) & it's heavy, but spatial computing is actually here at least 1.0 style.

Many posts observe AI, Arc, etc. exist because they can freely & easily exploit the raw info materials of our shared online space. They grow big as consumers love convenience blind to the costs.

This hyper version of (content) extraction & (creator) exploitation simply isn’t sustainable just like IRL. Free (raw content) materials will exhaust or get much worse, so costs will go up as content & creators are driven behind walled gardens.

This is just market economics not technology at work.

Twas the night before , when all through the lands techies were hoping soon to stop using their hands

The hot takes were pre written all with much care, with hopes that St. Jobs spirit would still be somehow in there

The nerds all nestled all snug in their beds, with VR visions not AI nor crypto danced in their heads.

My girl in her LuLus, and me with emails still,had just settled our selves for a long Netflix and chill.

When out on the net there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my phone to see what’s the matter

Away to launch windows I clicked like the Flash, tore open my socials, ready to threw down my cash.
The moon on my screen pix covered by hopeful sane threads had a luster of normalcy rather than that of pure dread, when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but an X troll’s shit post of Apple glasses up his rear.

What a little old douche, so snarky and quick, I knew in a moment he must be a dick. More rapid than Elon, his posts they did came, and he whistled and shouted and called us all names : "Now Fanboy! Now Dickweed! Now, Wannabe and Poser! On, Cuckboy! On, Creeper! On, NerdNeck and Loser! To the top of my shit list! To the top of my hate wall! Just delete your account! Really log off now and close each and all! "

All at once I heard on my speaker some coughs and then many growls and then all at once did I hear taunts and loud howls. His audio rant all put downs and boasts was nothing compared to his video FaceTime style roasts.

He was dressed like a slob,just a mess with bare feet, and his fit was not stylish and he looked like a creep. A backpack of crap was flung over his back, and he looked almost homeless or maybe on crack. His eyes--oh so beedy! His grin oh so scary! His cheeks both had acne, his nose a drunk like cherry!

/5

thomasapowell,
@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

His chicklet teeth mouth was drawn up just like a bow, and the beard on his chin filled with dandruff like snow. The sight of a Jule pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the vape smoke encircled his head like a wreath. He had a big fat face and a super big belly, the whole room shook when he farted, like a huge quake in Delhi.

thomasapowell,

He was more than chubby beyond just mere plump, in truth he was really a super fat fuck, and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head soon gave me to know I had much to still dread. Then he spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, and filled my hard drive with malware , then called me a jerk.

thomasapowell,

And flipping the bird after picking his nose he gave me a nod and yanked once on his hose. Off FaceTime he logged he sprang back to the socials, to the void he returned with no sound and, away he flew like some Troll like Doc Brown. But I saw his last post on my thread for the night. “Apple lovers are stupid and you surely ain’t right!"

Happy Eve may tech you like bring you fun and wonder no matter the brand or type.

@randahl scales !? Why does that matter ? According to recent out of my ass calculations 87.32% of all Americans know charts are 💯 irrefutable facts. Ok I acknowledge that 10% don’t believe that but they are woke. The balance is just rounding errors & illegal aliens.

Simply put Math and charts supports Donald Trump as the next president for life a 100 gajillion percent & Joe Biden is currently at -infinity percent. This is all just hard science. I did my own research so you can be sure!

If you want to know why software is getting worse: the current trend, for a while now, has been to eliminate QA departments entirely. This sucks, because I have a TON of respect for QA engineers. The ones I’ve had the pleasure of working with have come up with ways of breaking my software that I never would have dreamed of.

thomasapowell,
@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

@tilton
Well actually…
based on traditional Agile methodology is just not good enough. We need modern methods infused with quantum agility. QA testing slows velocity so you can’t enter the quantum dev realm. Docs also do not support quantum speeds ! Plans & design ? 💯 not quantum agility friendly. Our new YOLO Methodology allows us to rocket past the slow Agile methods of old into a future of quantum Agility.

are all we have sometimes so deploy as needed! 🤪

Engineering is a discipline of design through investigation and constraint, with the goal to develop useful products that serve users and help society.

The opposite of engineering is bullshit; substituting fairy tales for inquiry and evidence.

If the tone of my blog tends towards despair, it's because the professionalisation of frontend appears not to have made more engineers, no matter how generously the word gets slathered on CVs:

thomasapowell,
@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

@slightlyoff Don't be so glum Alex. As a modern I apply Ourself Centered Design so these points you are plotting don't matter since nobody we personally know would own a Moto E13 & if they somehow did what's wrong with them!

So about this popping up a list of alternative browsers for EU iOS users I’ll guess being at the top or bottom of this alpha list is likely going to be very very lucrative. Feels like they ought to randomize order other wise all browser hopefulls quickly might consider a rename to something like Alpha or Zephyr stat.

@cferdinandi 🤔 I am not sure I get this comparison as WCs simply do not address the same things nor do they mandate incrementaism & progressive enhancement. Of course you should write that way, but obviously you can be a SPA like React style bozo with WCs easily.

HTMX’s whole argument is about the web hypertext pattern & WCs say nada about that. In fact WCs and HTMX can work together … though ditch their custom attributes for data-* equivalent ones for sure!

P.s. typos in your first demo?

thomasapowell,
@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

@cferdinandi Of course but as they are distinguished as - style a custom attribute is just fine. Decorating a standard HTML tag with non-standard attributes like HTMX does = no validation check possibilities for you.

thomasapowell,
@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

@cferdinandi Well the HTMX main point is architecture and usage. If you use island style and PE style WCs you are of course fine and well and degrade nicely. If you do mandatory JS WC + a SPA pattern you are often right back in React style problems just with less code. Of course that might be fine if building a long session style actual app great, but that is of course not what a lot of people do with React nor with WCs sometimes. HTMX goes after that kind of issue.

thomasapowell,
@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

@cferdinandi BTW HTMX it isn't really an end all be all nor new thinking - see Hotwire/Stimulus and their ilk which have been used successfully at scale for years https://hotwired.dev/ I even personally wrote and demoed about this style as Ajah (Asynchronous JavaScript with HTML) in my Ajax book like 16 years ago to give you a sense of ancient history.

TL;DR - It's just a possible approach and certainly not good for all things, just like WCs aren’t though I'd bet more on WCs! :-)

@thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

The commentary about ultimately it sucks because you are “in there” and should instead be “out here” is a tad disingenuous. I mean “out here” a massive amount of people are just head down even when walking all looking at their black rectangles to get “in there”. At least with VisionPro it is too heavy to stay in there too long so you don’t develop a mobile phone posture and nerd neck 🤪
