My #SilentSunday was a hike through the hills of Egtved. This is the area, where archeologists found the grave of The Egtved Girl, who lived in 1370 BCE (bronze age), and was buried in an oak coffin in the hills.

I can see why people would live here in the bronze age, as well as today. The nature is breathtaking, varied, and full of life.

In a few weeks this place will burst into leaf and be even more beautiful, so I will definitely be back for more photos.

In my news feed right now:

— Trump's first criminal trial begins opening arguments Monday.

— An arrest warrant is in the works for Benjamin Netanyahu in The Hague.

— The US is sending long range ATACMS missiles and 61 billion dollars worth of equipment to Ukraine to defeat Vladimir Putin.

Being evil just is not what it used to be. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Mike Johnson did not "do the right thing".

Mike Johnson did everything he could to do the wrong thing, but then he ran out of options.

There is a stark difference.

@RuthODay it is a good quote, but several have investigated this, and it is not a Churchill quote. I read, it is from a middle eastern diplomat.

Kudos to New York Post for this glorious headline.

SMS sent by Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline to Ukrainian diplomat Olexander Scherba after the House agreed on the US aid to Ukraine yesterday:

"The whole unit was watching. After the vote, one could hear all over the trench: YESSS!"

Hope has returned! ♥️

What a historic day. What a relief, the Ukraine aid finally passed the House. What a wonderful signal to the Ukrainian people, that the world is on their side.

Goodnight Mastodon…
And slava Ukraini. ♥️

Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer says, the Senate will vote on aid to Ukraine Tuesday.

This could allow Biden to sign the Ukraine aid package later this coming week.

Awesome! 🙌🏻

randahl,
@randahl@mastodon.social avatar

@Paxxi Senate will vote Tuesday. Biden will sign by Friday. First weapons to arrive one week after that.

I reckon these last six months have been used to transfer a lot of stuff to Europe already, although I have not seen any specific news stories on that.

I did not see this one coming:

The US is about to impose sanctions on specific members of the Israeli army, the IDF.

Behind closed doors, the US has investigated the IDF's violations of human rights in Gaza, and the result is now on Anthony Blinken's table.

Breaking: Ukraine will receive the first new weapons within a week after the aid package is finalized, a Pentagon official tells Washington Post.

@anderspuck BTW I saw, ATACMS were mentioned directly in the bill. Have you heard anything about actual numbers?

Several of you have asked, why half the Republican party has voted for Ukraine aid today, if the party is against it.

The truth is, many republicans have wanted this aid for months — even Mike Johnson was for it in the beginning.

But Trump wanted Biden’s Ukraine agenda to fail, and very few Republicans dare to go against the tzar, because if they do, Trump will immediately endorse another political candidate in their home district.

But what turned this around was security briefings…

where experts told politicians, that if they kept delaying the aid, Ukraine could lose the war.

I think that made Mike Johnson and others realize, they risked destroying their political careers by being the ones to hand the victory to Putin.

Every member of the House depends on being reelected in November, and if Ukraine was suddenly on retreat because of their clown show, many patriotic Republicans might vote for someone else.

They were scared of Trump, but this scared them even more.

@anderspuck I agree the discharge petition also played a role in this. I just do not think it was the key, because we had not seen any new signatures since April 12, and with only 195 signatures, there was still a long way to go.

randahl,
@randahl@mastodon.social avatar

@anderspuck he directly stated that in front of the press, and I have heard two other Republican members also mentioning these briefings as their reason.

@mastodonmigration I agree. It is so wrong to put them in this position.

Great new video from military analyst @anderspuck on the new axis of evil: China, Russia, and Iran.

If you are worried that these three countries have a coordinated plan to destroy the world, there is a lot of interesting answers in this video:

The press in Congress asks the usual tabloid questions about the war between Mike Johnson and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

But the important question they should ask is this:

Now that Ukraine has lost several towns, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians have died, and Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been bombed to smithereens, because they ran out of important military equipment, how do you justify your long delay of this important bill on Ukraine aid?

Yay!

The Ukraine aid bill has been adopted by the House, 310 to 112.

Trump and Putin lost.

Freedom won.

Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦♥️🇺🇦

"This is a moment to choose between freedom or tyranny, truth or propaganda, Zelenskyy or Vladimir Putin. The American people has always stood on the side of democracy and freedom, and we will stand on the side of the Ukrainian people, until victory is won",
says House minority leader Jeffries.

Picture 1, Trump’s reality: Germany has a massive budget surplus, because the US is paying for the war in Ukraine.

Picture 2, reality, Germany has a massive budget deficit of 17 billion euros.

Beautiful!

Historian Dr Timothy Snyder shows up in congress and absolutely wipes the floor with Marjorie Taylor Greene by simply presenting the facts and listing all the times the ultra MAGA politicians have fallen for Putin’s propaganda — hook line and sinker.
