A lot of players seem to be getting serious knee injuries these days. Anyone know if it's on the increase, or just a recency/availability bias in my head?
Is there any open data available on injuries we can interrogate?

Minimalist and low drop shoes became popular among people in their early 20s in the mid 2000s. This was right around the time of the beginning of the obesity epidemic.
Knee injuries are indeed on the rise among professional athletes according to a quick Google search.
A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to receive an email that my story, “Two Hands, Wrapped in Gold,” had been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novelette. Virtue signaling always seemed to imply the exact opposite of this. That is, it's an empty gesture with no real effort, or price and was easy because of a kind of herd movement. This seems the exact opposite of that.
It's only slander if it isn't true. As far as I can see she isn't backing out because she has a problem with the convention. She's backing out because of a problem with China's oppression of the Uighurs and others. She hasnt bad-mouthed anyone that I can see. She's only stated facts, made a decision, and declined an award as a matter of principal.

She didn't say the awards show was complicit because they were helping oppress the Uighurs she's saying their complicit by having an awards show there. That complicity serves as a tacit approval of China's oppresion which she cannot brook.
That hasn't worked for the last 27 years or so if you count the granting of most favored nation trading status by Clinton in the 90s and that was a much bigger encouragement for liberalization than an awards show. I don't think your line of hopeful reasoning is supported by the evidence.
