And for my next trick, a full cart of groceries loaded into... an SUV? No! A mere bicycle!

The grocery cart is empty and all the groceries are in the back panniers of my bike

@mbonsma

One time I took a 120 pound filer across town on the cargo bike. :)

Always get a few odd looks, but fortunately drivers around here give you a bit more room if it looks like you'll do some harm to their vehicle if they hit you.

You know it's a good trip when you have to take multiple trips to carry all the stuff into the house.

A bright orange RadPower cargo bike with lots of boxes staked up, including a full black garbage bag strapped to the back.

Check your food before you eat it!

This is the second time in a month when I've purchased food and found that the packaging was never sealed correctly at the factory.

Problem Exists Between Chair and Keyboard? But sometimes the problem is the chair. https://www.emcesd.com/pdf/uesd99-w.pdf

"Some office chairs are capable of producing several hundreds of discharges over as much as a minute after a person rises from the chair. The sheer number and close spacing of possible ESD events makes the probability of equipment failure more likely [...]"

"There is an urgent need for a standardized test so that procurement contracts can specify chairs that do not radiate this type of electromagnetic interference"

@niconiconi

When the weather conditions are right, sitting down or getting up from my work chair generates enough EMI to desync the HDMI connection to my computer display.

Woah, looks like modwiggler was sold: https://modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=283061

Sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

Microsoft forcing licensees to have to put an AI button on keyboards is a great example of how this crap is being forced on everyone.

@f4grx I've pulled so much cable through conduit using a manual fish, and this would really help... Just the distance measurement alone is so useful, because then I can cut my cable to length before pulling it back through.

Github is almost unusually slow now, with each page taking 3 - 5 seconds to load all their dynamic JavaScript to render everything.

Editing text is especially infuriating, since there is a pronounced lag between when you type and when characters show up on the screen.

I don't like the direction that the web is going.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Of course many people would blame me for running a ten year old computer, and still being on Mac OS Monterey, but I don't have the money for a new computer, and this one works fine with everything except the latest web bloat.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

@rain

I don't understand how they can ignore all the usability research that shows how a non-responsive laggy site will make people hate them and drive their user base away. Are they that out of touch?

Or is that their goal?

I mean, this is the company that wants to put "AI" buttons on everything...

It's time to order some PCBs!

First difficulty — JLCPCB's web site no longer works on Safari. I have to use Firefox instead.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

The tantalum capacitors I use on a couple of designs (T491D226K035AT) seem to be out of stock and unavailable from LCSC.

So I will need to find a replacement part.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

These particular capacitors are 22 uF 35V 10% tolerance with a 2917 footprint. 700 mOhm ESR.

When I look for replacements with the same footprint, there are very few available. I have more of these on reels then LCSC has in their warehouses.

The only ones with 10% tolerance and reasonable quantity in stock are lower voltages (16V), which is too low.

If I'm willing to relax the tolerance to 20% and lower the voltage to 25V, I could use a 25TQC22MV. They are pretty pricy, though at $0.59 each.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

@gsuberland

Tons of those in stock. Thanks, those didn't show up as the same footprint in the search!

That's a much better option then the 593D226X0025D2TE3 I was gong to go with.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Ok, so first part that is out of stock is dealt with...

Figured out how to transfer the order URI over to FireFox, since EasyEDA wants to open it in Safari...

Looks like the first design is all good to order again.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Next design is good to go too.

I can save around $10 by pre-buying parts, so I will do that before submitting the order.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Third design, the main IC is completely out of stock. Only the BGA version is available, and that would require a complete re-design of much of the board.

I'll see if they can order any, and if not, I'll spent the time to redo the board.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Fourth design is fine, but the fifth seems to have lost the linkage between the footprint and the component in the BOM for most of the parts.

Sigh... At least the part number is still accessible from the design.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Ok. The BOM is all fixed up.

I need to order $315 worth of parts, then I can submit the PCB order.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Parts are ordered, two backorders, but I can still proceed with this order, minus one design.

I also realized that I skipped over one design, so I will check that one now.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

For the first design, it's $50 for 20 assembled boards, $64 for 40 boards and $90 for 80 boards.

I was originally going to get 20 manufactured, but what the heck, it's a tested design, so let's go for 40 to drive down the per-board price.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

Order is placed!

Up to Y786.

That took a long time, over three hours to put in the order.

I have a lot of respect for the people whose job is to keep track of component availability, and are able to keep everything moving smoothly from design through manufacturing through shipping.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

The PCBs are on their way to the shipping company. Only 5 days needed for design checks, manufacturing and assembly. Always impressed by how fast they can do this.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

PCBs arrived at the door this morning. Unusual for shipping to be this fast, less than four days to go halfway around the world.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

The PCBs are looking good! I'll do some testing later, and post pictures.
