No, you can't carry three packs of laminate flooring, underlay, spacers and three hacksaw blades by cycle.

In guarded good news, I have an appointment to meet one of the board members of Davis Food Co-op to demonstrate how the "lightning bolt" racks are not accessible. (She offered to meet with me in response to a customer feedback form I sent in.)

I'm going to try to pile my recumbent bike onto the cargo quad so I can bring both over and illustrate the different types. I need to print out some photos I've taken of other cycles at those racks, too.

, Day 34: Mostly , especially doing groceries. Not many kilometers yet (1.75km), but many kilograms: Frontbag 14kg, rear bag 10kg (beverages), with e-assist and the big battery 17kg, me myself + clothing, multiple swiss army knives, wallet, keyring, etc. 87kg, i.e. 128kg overall. Yes, the Brompton was overloaded.

Thanks to ROK straps (https://rokstraps.com/pages/rok-moto) I can now carry my Brompton on the crate swing out of the shopping cart. Cc @mwfc

A folded red-white Brompton sitting on a swung out platform at the rear end of a shopping cart originally meant to put crates of beverages there. It's saved against falling off with an orange strap between the bag hook of the cart and the trailer hook of the Brompton

I was heading back from picking up groceries and figured I'd try to pick up from the storage unit the stuff I had to take out of my car to reduce exposure to break-in while in Berkeley. Wasn't sure I'd be able to fit it all in & have it stable without bungie cords, but I did it. @fedibikes

In August my family did an 8-day camping trip in Southern Ontario, completely car-free. We left our home in Toronto and my parents left their home in Niagara on bikes, and we did this lovely loop along the shore of Lake Erie. A thread about our trip!

Did some grocery shopping with the on the way back from the server room. Took my Brompton inside as usual. But I wasn't the only one who took a bike inside. A young girl was pushing a through the small supermarket. And a lot of people were wearing their inside. Counted at least four persons. Outside were at least a dozen bikes, though.

So remember: Always take your bicycle helmet inside when doing errands to show that you're shopping with a bicycle.

The humble bike trailer is a cheap (used: $120ish) and easy way to start biking with cargo. I mainly use mine to haul groceries, but I also use it to take materials to work events, cats to the vet, pick up Christmas trees, 🍕 etc. Caution: it may make you want to buy a cargo bike

@GordonOfSeattle when the 1st kid was a toddler, I got this trailer and mainly used it as a stroller to walk them to the grocery store and bring stuff home. Later, coupling the trailer to their bike let them pedal the whole way there and back with a boost from me jogging along behind. (Tip , you have to mount this hitch upside-down on the 16in wheels.)

A point about climate change...

There are some people I know who are very much anti-car and think we should just use buses and bikes.

My question is, if you go somewhere to do your weekly food shop, how can you fit it all on your bike??

I appreciate many cars cause damage to the environment, but hybrids are a good option and I'm sure there'll be s point where they're all electric.

I think it'd be much better if some only used cars when the absolutely have to.
