Today me and the dog were up in a really remote spot in Northumberland for a walk in some woods up there. Storm Arwen had knocked down loads of trees in this woodland so currently only a little bit in the middle is open so it's a much shorter walk than it would usually be and a little bit at the end is back along the road to the carpark. It's really in the middle of nowhere though. When we walked out of the woods we saw a concerned looking woman with an e-bike on its stand...

Cycled to the shops, about 10 minutes away, along a winding 20mph road. Within a minute a van blasted past me at about 50mph and then a guy tried to overtake me around a bend into the path of an oncoming car and when he couldn't he blasted his horn, tailgated me, and then shouted at me.

On the way back a black hatchback driver flew past and drove on the wrong side of a keep left and when I shouted "Hey!" out of surprise he gave me the finger and drove off.

All because I'm on a bike.

The guy shouting at me was also shouting "you were on your phone" which I wasn't. I did move a hex wrench from my front carrier to my handlebar feed bag thing because it was about to fall off. It was totally safe. I held up the hex wrench and said "I was moving this!".

But even if I was on my phone (I wasn't) the punishment for that isn't nearly killing me because you can't wait 20 seconds to get around a bend and pass safely.

But speak to these people and they complain about cyclists!

They've all been brainwashed into thinking cyclists are an issue when they are the problem.

Some people do actually need to use cars but not many and nobody needs to drive a car aggressively and selfishly then scream at others when they fuck up.

There's been stories in the media about companies seeing less growth etc but I think in part that's because there are many more meat replacements nowadays.

But, as a vegan, I'm not really into those meat replacements and I'm often frustrated that the vegan options in pubs is generally always a plant based burger and chips when there are so many other vegan options which don't need meat analogues.

Don't get me wrong, seitan "chicken" strips are amazing though! 😉

Tried a new recipe for Scrambled Tofu today. 280g of firm Tofu, drained, crumbled with hands, and fried until warmed through…

Add 1 garlic clove, 2tbsp nooch, 0.25tsp turmeric, 150ml oat milk, pinch of ground cumin until most oatmilk evaporated. Season with freshly ground salt and pepper, serve!

Awake at 5am worrying about stuff again. It's been a few stressful years and I can start to see the end of it. But since 2019 it's been full-on with one thing after another. But I like to think that I'm spending all of the stress and saving all of the calmness which I'll spend afterwards.

Only another few months of real stress and then I should be able to start taking it a bit easier.

@mariusor @BeebsyMcA No. It doesn't. When I feel good and I go riding I feel better but when I'm down I can't go riding because dealing with traffic is too stressful.

It's funny when people say "can't afford a car" like it's some sort of insult to that individual.

In fact we all can't afford cars. We can't afford to have them clogging up our cities and towns.

We have to invest in alternatives.

Also the weird thing is that most people with a new car can't afford that car really anyway because it's on a heavily subsidised finance agreement designed just to turn people into indentured servants to the finance companies.
