I had a very sad realization while playing Dragon's Dogma 2... I didn't like it much at first, but once I got into the flow of exploration and combat, I started to really like it.

So, the sad realization is that if they made this game and used AI for all the NPCs, dialog, and quests, it would feel basically the same. The dialog is TERRIBLE. It's laughable robotic. I think AI could have produced more human-like dialog. The pawns that follow and help you are the worst. "Master follow me, I know the optimum path to take to reach our target." That's how they all talk... and they use pitch shifting technology to make multiple voices out of one... so it sounds very robotic. But, the game is still so much fun because combat feels SO good and exploration feels good.

So, if a game succeeds in one area, I think most gamers will completely ignore or forgive the fact that the rest of it is ai slop... and that makes me feel weird. I dread the ai slop future.

If you're not from the US and want to travel here. Don't.

I thought as a (German and white) visitor I'm gonna be fine.

Border and customs protection took my phone, forced me to unlock it and stole god knows what data from it. The agent was powertripping and made sure to let me know that I am powerless and he can just send me home or do godknowswhat to me.

He directly said "if you're annoying I'm just sending you home".

Apparently my trans ass was part of a "random search". Lol.

I'm fine now and with Lexi luckily. I don't know what kind of malware is on my phone, or what they took from it. I've been crying all throughout my connecting flight.

This place is a dystopian shithole. Please don't go here.

If you're going to the solar eclipse, I have a huge piece of advice: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAMERA OR PHONE.

It only lasts a short while and it's surreal. It's one of the weirdest feelings ever. EXPERIENCE IT ALL. You can not capture it well with a phone camera... And a fancy camera is a waste of time imo. One of my biggest regrets is trying to take a photo. I wasted half the eclipse trying to set the exposure then realized I was missing it. I want those seconds back because I felt so robbed. I was literally sad for a long time because it was over and I didn't soak it in properly. It was still special, but I do feel like I ruined it by trying to take a photo.

I'm kinda having fun with Dragon's Dogma 2... but I gotta say that most of this dialog sounds like ai told to say, "generic fantasy stuff." Baldur's Gate 3 has broken RPGs for me. At least it's pretty and has interestingish combat... Anyone else getting that vibe from the dialog?

That's the best compliment anyone's ever given me (for my music). They felt something... The related it to me... And they wondered about my experiences.
AI can never replicate this. Ai can't convey human feelings, ideas, or opinions. That person found the heart of my music and it meant something to them. This experience isn't compatible with art made by nobody.

This is also why I have no interest in art made by LLMs... I'm interested in the experiences of the artist... I want to see/hear what they've been though.

I don't want to get back to the old days of save points only in certain places, But these had a psychological effect "it's a feature" where it was such a relief to find them. you felt safe, accomplished, like tiny milestones, a lot of game design around these too.

Just finished Sid Meier's book (it was awesome) and now I'm in the mood for something dark and gritty to balance out the wholesomeness.

Anybody have recommendations for hard-boiled or noir that's bleak, gory, and gritty... Bonus points if takes place in the 80s or 90s? Seems like most of them are set in the 40s-60s.
