When people say that defunding the police will lead to a wave of crime, I have to ask:

What about the wave of crime we wouldn't have been experiencing for centuries if we hadn't given "police" powers to slavers?

This mess is -because of the cops-.

No more standing armies in the street. It's way past time America got actual freedom and representation.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

We can't keep our politicians and our own government under control because.. checking notes

Oh yeah we let a handful of people buy off politicians who then armed people with guns to take our money to buy more guns for those people so they could oppress us..

That's how "public" policing got founded in America, kids.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

The police are a racket run by the slavers.

Nothing has changed.

They're stealing your money (your labor and existence) at gunpoint to oppress you. That's what taxes without representation are. That's what the standing army on our streets is for.

It's to steal from you, and to make sure you don't organize against the ringleaders.

Me, initially confused by my code working correctly.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

I seriously spent like 15 minutes thinking it was spitting out the wrong answer, but my expectation was a bit confused. Answer was correct, nothing needs changing.

By the time I'd thought about it and written the code, I was far enough removed mentally from the initial motivation (concerned with implementation details), that I didn't initially recognize it being correct.

"Republican attorneys general in Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas have been using “abusive legal demands” to collect transgender patients’ medical records in pursuit of “ideological and political goals,” according to a 10-page report recently released by the staff of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee’s Democratic majority. ...The attorneys general [used] misleading legal pretexts to make civil investigative demands of gender-affirming healthcare providers."

Genocide is their plan.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

If you ever wonder why the GOP wholeheartedly supports murdering Palestinians, its's because they wholeheartedly support genocide in general.

That includes killing you, a person who isn't a rich, white, male conservative Nazi.

Time for Google to see a class action lawsuit, followed by criminal charges that they attempted to force employees into committing genocide, then firing them in order to have them wrongfully imprisoned for refusing to commit genocide.

Same for the cops.

The time for kid gloves is over.

So, $17.28 billion dollars to give weapons to Israel and $9.1 billion dollars to line their pockets because the Israelis sure af aren't letting any Palestinians have $9.1 billion.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

Our politicians cannot credibly ban aid from UNRWA and expect us to believe that some other organization is going to magically be able to turn $9.1 billion dollars into aid and distribute it without being targeted and assassinated by the Israeli Assassination Force.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

Which leaves only the conclusion that this is actually just extra cash for mass murderers to spend as they like.

You know, siphoning your tax dollars directly from your paycheck to Netanyahu's bank account.

weilawei,
@weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

I am not sufficiently creative to imagine the fantasy our politicians and media would like me to believe. My bad.

    Capitalists only get butthurt about property damage. To them, that's the only kind of violence, unless it happens to them personally or something offends their sense of ownership.

    Violence against people isn't a thing, because there are no other people in their minds. Just them and their stuff.

    someone should write a mystery novel in which the murder weapon is a paintbrush and then a hose to quickly spray away a very temporary white line.

    from https://blog.dshr.org/2024/04/elon-musk-threat-or-menace-part-4.html

    "So that's all there is to Autopilot. No radar, no lidar, no GPS, no map, no geofencing, no proper driver monitoring. It just uses the camera to follow the lines. It doesn't disengage if it can't see the lines, it just keeps going."

    "In the months preceding the crash, Huang’s vehicle swerved in a similar location eleven times, according to internal Tesla data discussed by Huang’s lawyers during a court hearing last month. According to the data, the car corrected itself seven times. Four other times, it required Huang’s intervention. Huang was allegedly playing a game on his phone when the crash occurred. "

    Wow. Just... everything about this. He had to know it was only a matter of time before total failure.

    I got annoyed with UTF-8 support in C++ I wrote another implementation of it for a mutable string buffer (fixed-size--can be changed easily).

    Just a handful of things I needed: read in files, validate for UTF-8, compatibility with C string handling functions like strncmp, and an iterator by UTF-8 character.

    Doesn't make any unnecessary copies or decoding unless you ask for it, and you can iterate without validating.

    275 LOC, tests are a wee bit longer. Just the one header and the cpp file.

    is anyone ever like 'maybe this hiking trail should have remained a railroad track'

    weilawei,
    @weilawei@mastodon.online avatar

    @jordinn Six, half dozen, or the other. I am very much in favor of both paths and railroads.

    We turned much of our older local railways into bike paths, but also recently upgraded one line that had been reduced to hauling freight only at slow speeds, and now it does passenger service for Amtrak also.

    Did you have a specific railroad in mind? I guess I'm wondering if there's a consistent way to decide, "should this be a railroad or a path?"

    Boeing really shot themselves in the foot: their reckless attitude toward quality might sink the company, and there may be criminal charges over failing to adhere to quality and documentation procedures that were instituted as part of a settlement and deferred prosecution agreement after similar corner-cutting caused... checks notes ...two fatal crashes, one in 2018 and one in 2019.

    Iran's response was very clearly calibrated to be a show of force, not an actual "let's make a bunch of people dead" attack. All the advance warning, choice of weapons, etc. etc.. It was for the media.

    They even said they considered it concluded. I don't think Iran wants a war either, but they had to produce a response to Israel attacking their embassy.

    When Godwin said the comparison between Hitler and Trump was valid, did everyone ignore -why- he said it was valid, taking it as an axiomatic truth because of an appeal to authority?

    ""You could say the 'vermin' remark or the 'poisoning the blood' remark, maybe one of them would be a coincidence," Godwin said. "But both of them pretty much make it clear that there’s something thematic going on, and I can’t believe it’s accidental.""

    The truth has nothing to do with Godwin saying it.

    It applies to Netanyahu and his same statements and actions, and to the Israeli state, as well as the states supporting their genocide, just like happened with Nazi Germany.

    It's the actions, not who tells you about them or what label the person doing them is wearing on their shirt.

    In their own words, using the language of the Nazis, directing the IDF to commit genocide.

    "No electricity, no food ... we are fighting human animals."

    “‘Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
