Isn't the whole point of OF that content creators can work independently? It feels pretty lame to game that system and try to insert yourself as a middleman.

I had a little girlfriend when we were in first grade. lol I don't recall anyone ever asking me if I had a girlfriend or anything, and I had plenty of friends that were girls and no one ever teased me about it that I remember. I knew it was okay to be friends with girls, I just had a crush on this one. We played Zelda together and talked on the phone for hours about whatever dumb things first graders talk about, then her family moved to another state. It was my most successful relationship to date. 😂

This is a real bummer. It is a shame it was never open sourced. :(

I sincerely hope @hariette is doing okay! If she reads this, the community still appreciates you. <3

Sure. The premise is that blocks are falling and can't be allowed to reach a certain height. There is drama in knowing that, no matter what, it will eventually reach that height. You're given the tools to fend off the inevitable for as long as you can. There's conflict, resolution, and the plot details are determined both by the decisions you make and the order in which the game delivers the blocks to you. You are the protagonist, the computer is the antagonist. There's a beginning, middle, and end to every game. It's as reductive as stories get, but it's a story.

I would argue that all games have a story. Some have a scripted narrative--which, in the medium of video games, gives the player their own immersive role in the story--while other games give you the tools to create your own story as you play. You face conflicts and use your abilities and the resources around you to overcome them, ideally resulting in a satisfying progression throughout your playtime.

Both are cool for different reasons.

I was hyped until I saw that Avi "Compulsively Ruins Spider-Man Movies" Arad is producing. 😬

EDIT: Oh and it's Sony. And the director choice.... eeeeeeeehhh. Here's hoping for a pleasant surprise, I guess?

DraStic is amazing on midrange devices. Compatibility is excellent in my experience, there's a lot of UI customization available, and there are some nice filter and scaling options built-in. It also has full controller support.

IIRC, he did intend to make 3 trilogies, but after making the prequels, he wanted to actually spend time with his kids and knew that making a sequel trilogy would consume another decade of his life.

He did "consult" on episode VII, but apparently he only had like one or two meetings and they used basically none of his ideas and didn't take any more input from him.

There's a bunch of info out there about what his trilogy would have been, and it's a shame because it actually sounds so much cooler than what we got, to me. If George had helmed the next trilogy but had maybe a co-writer/co-director to reign him in a bit like he had on the OG trilogy, we might have had something truly wild.

EDIT: This video has some really interesting details about what could have been.

Canonically, Venom can sneak up on Spider-Man because he once wore the symbiote and now Venom doesn't trigger his Spider-Sense. Venom doesn't have a Spider-Sense, but he can see in 360° all around him. That gives him an edge over Peter, but in this trailer we see Miles sneak up on Venom with his camouflage. That's pretty cool that they find ways to highlight that Peter and Miles can cover each other's blind spots like that.

There's an app on F-Droid simply called Video Transcoder that should be able to do this for you. You can trim clips, change resolution/bitrate, change file formats/containers, and other simple things like that.

Researchers claim to have detected vulnerabilities in VPN clients that went unnoticed -at least publicly- since 1996 (tunnelcrack.mathyvanhoef.com)

Tests indicate that every VPN product is vulnerable on at least one device, the researchers say. VPNs for iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and macOS are extremely likely to be vulnerable, that a majority of VPNs on Windows and Linux are vulnerable, and that Android is the most secure with roughly one-quarter of VPN apps being...

It's too bad they don't offer a complete list of known patched VPNs. They just give like 5 example ones. It'd be really helpful to know if my service has patched already or not.

They didn't even release the first one that long ago. This feels like it should be a "next gen" update and not a full-blown sequel, but I guess they probably need to recover costs from hiring all the voice actors and redoing all the graphics.

Choose Four Consoles to Have the Largest Selection of Games

So I’m reassessing my entertainment center since seeing the Video Game History Foundation’s report. Since the study it’s got me thinking, if you could pick any 4 consoles to have hooked up to your TV (4 becuase I’ve got 4 inputs to my TV) which would you pick and why? I will accept modded consoles as answers too.

Here is what I believe to be the definitive answer for maxing out your library on 4 inputs:

  1. Gaming PC/Steam Deck - you'll have access to a sprawling library of games from all generations and can even emulate console exclusive games from previous generations. The reason I'm not recommending an Xbox console on this list is because basically every current gen Xbox One (+ X|S) game is already on PC (as are many OG Xbox and most Xbox 360-era games), GamePass is an option if you wanna play some OG Xbox/360 games legally, and emulation can get you any games that aren't available otherwise. Sony is also making many recent PS5 exclusives available on PC now with more to come.

  2. Nintendo Switch - it's got a kick-ass library of exclusives, almost every Wii U game has been ported over (minus like ~8, I think?), they've been remaking/remastering a lot of older games and are reportedly going to go hard on that for the remainder of the Switch's lifespan, and with NSO it has a respectable library of retro Nintendo and Sega Genesis games if you wanna go the legal route.

  3. PS4/PS5 - A PS5 would be ideal for maxing out your possible library size, because it can play any PS4 or PS5 game; however, there also aren't a ton of PS5 exclusives at this point in time, PS5 games are being ported over to PC faster than PS4 exclusives, many recent PS5 games are also on PS4, PS4s are cheaper, and the PS4 can be jailbroken. There's a case to be made for getting a PS4 instead.

  4. Modded PS3 - Especially if you can track down a phat model with hardware back compact support, you can load up a HDD with games and play the entire PS1, PS2, and PS3 libraries.

With these four, you should be able to play essentially any game ever made. You will have...

Official hardware support for:

  • PlayStation
  • PlayStation 2
  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4 and/or 5
  • Nintendo Switch
  • PC (Astonishingly huge library)

You will have the (paid) option of legal software support for many of the best games from:

  • NES
  • SNES
  • Sega Genesis
  • Game Boy
  • Game Boy Color
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Nintendo 64
  • Xbox
  • Xbox 360

You will have the capability to emulate anything from Atari 2600 through to some Nintendo Switch, including Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, arcade classics, and many, many more.

IMO, this is the best way to max out the 4 ports on your TV. You can also get a PS Vita and mod it for PS Vita + PSP games, and a 3DS modded for 3DS and NDS games. They don't need to be plugged into your TV, so they weren't included on my list of 4, but they are both excellent handheld consoles with great libraries.

Krita has a pretty solid mobile version that's got a lot of photoshop's functionality. There are other art programs like ClipStudio Paint that can do a lot of that, too.

I mean, if an event is walled-off and admission is charged to spectate the event (a movie screening, concert, ball game, etc), you could absolutely argue that it's stealing--but it depends on what the ticket price covers. Does it just buy you a seat? If so, then the people inside aren't paying for the content either, just for a seat. It would be stealing to go in and sit down, but not to stand outside and watch. If the ticket price pays for access to the performance, then yeah, it's stealing.

But is it immoral? Idk. Is stealing as an act always immoral? If you're starving, is it immoral to steal from big chain grocery stores to feed your family? Is it immoral for a homeless person to sleep in an abandoned house that's techically owned by a bank but they're not doing anything with it? Many would say those things are not immoral. Some would say it's immoral that our system allows for people to be without food or shelter when we have so much excess. But then there's entertainment. Is entertainment a need? Is it important for our mental health? Is it a luxury for people with time to waste? Is someone losing something? If so, who? Do they deserve it? Are they earning it legitimately?

Morality is weird and complicated. It's often incredibly subjective. What kind of world do you want to live in? Do you believe art and entertainment should be free? Do you believe artists should be paid? Do you believe event venues should be paid? What do you support? Those aren't meant to be leading questions at all, but they are things you should think about. What do you believe in, and are your actions in line with those beliefs? Who do you want to be?

That's just my 2¢.
