I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it's because I am limited to using the desktop and can't aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. I found myself...
Reddit on Mobile is completely dead to me and I will only use it on my desktop for specific searches if the info is not available elsewhere (last resort).
0.1% of the time wil be spend on Reddit, with an ad blocker of course.
It probably goes against the philosophy or whatever of FOSS or Lemmy itself, but why not be a little evil so that you can actually sustain yourself? Donations can bring us far, but small non-intrusive ads can be a bliss in the skies for the people actually hosting the instance. Especially if there are millions of users uploading...
It depends, how long until it will not be fun anymore to see every sub turned into a meme?
I give it 2 days. After that people will stop tuning in as regularly.
Also traffic != money in regards of advertisers.
If traffic increases but the engagement lowers then that is a death blow to reddit.
The metric that got posted 1-2 days ago that engagement was cut down from 31 to 17 seconds during/after the blackout is huge and a metric the advertisers will look at.
I don't mind to pay for services, I don't mind to pay for extra's as long as the money goes to the people doing the work and the people doing the work increase or maintain the user experience of said service.
The whole "you just want free stuff" people were shouting on Reddit is a bunch of balony.
Hosting costs money
Infrastructure costs money
Developing costs money
Maintenance costs money
All the above also costs time.
So of course it is okay for people to donate or have some monetization possibilities to keep the lights on and getting paid for the work they do so they can make a full time living from it or use it as a part time gig.
But there is still a difference size rift between the above and trying to monetize every single thing from your platform/user base just because of greed.
I like that I see the disclaimer about it being an addition and not an replacement more and more on the products that you can buy like protein shakes, protein bars and such.
They should be an addition to your meals/diet and not an replacement.
Of course there is no harm in replacing 1 meal a day for a shake or such if one feels like it but all meals is not gonna help in the long run and isn't giving enough variety in your nutrition.
But indeed like you said, they are good as supplements!
One of the side effects of the reddit meltdown is that many search results were unavailable because of communities going private. It would be great if we could fill in the void with lemmy content instead.

Haha I can understand. I also think that there is quite some redundancy in regards to fresh fragrances.
But there are a few good ones that came out this year;
Bad boy Cobalt from carolina Herrera is a really good blue fragrance.
One of my other favorites; Issaye Miyake Vetiver. Not a bank breaker and if you like to make a statement and want an heavy hitter for the summer you should try it out. It will literally pinch the inside of your nostrils at the first whiff haha.
I also really like the Creed fragrances for the spring/summer.
It is quite unpopular but the fragrances are great natural (smelling) fragrances with an air of class and elegance around them.
Especially in Europe they are also quite much on sale.
Are there any Reddit refugees spending more time on Lemmy than Reddit?
