/kbin is certainly not dying, as @fr0g pointed out, work on new features and bug fixes is ongoing. However, it may give the impression that it is, and for that, I take full responsibility and owe you an explanation....
Agreed, stepping down is a bit heavy handed. There are a lot of moving parts, it's okay to take time for your self and let others take up the reigns temporarily if you need to. I've seen quite a lot of merges on the core recently - so it's obvious things are moving in the right direction.
There definitely needs to be a set protocol to remove mods like this. If the user did something to be removed from a specific mag, that's one thing, but removing them from every mag you're a mod for is an overreach.
I don't think there can possibly be a justifiable reason he was banned from every one of that mod's magazines, and then for the mod to systematically put a downvote on every single one of the user's posts. Clearly they both did it, but still, not moderator worthy behavior.
The same will happen with Relay for Reddit soon too. DBrady is still holding open the app, paying the costs for it, so that he can release a subscription model. I love Relay, but I (and I imagine others) won't pay a subscription for a stripped down version where majority of the $$$ goes to Reddit and not the developer... If he had an option to pay him directly I would consider it though.
They better start figuring out how to merge old accounts into the new ones then. There is about to be a shitton of email undelivered that was forwarded from old addresses to new addresses...
I was just getting ready to post something like this as well. We need a way to put a 'slow-mode' on certain communities. I don't want to block them entirely because I enjoy them too, but at this point /all is literally all shitposts and memes. Even scrolling way down (infinite scroll) it's all memes all the way down.
I want to be able to discover other communities and engage and grow them, but we just can't see any of them with all the memes.
I swear I’m not trying to promote Reddit, I’m a refugee as many of us here, I just saw this video linked on r/Save3rdPartyApps and it amaze me that many people used Reddit for niche stuff....
My dude, be the change you want to see. Start the community, curate what you want to see there, set some ground rules, and people will join you. I guarantee your interests are shared with others.
I only see a handful of communities posts, but miss a lot from smaller communities that aren’t as active but do get daily posts. Reddit blended in smaller communities really well and it’s something I’m struggling with here.
I actually like sorting by 'New" on fedi - it promotes engagement in new content and it's generally decent content here as opposed to what you see in "new" on reddit...
His first show brought in over 26 million “video views,” which is a Twitter metric that records a view as anyone who watches a video for more than 2 seconds. While the metric’s reliability has been questioned, it has nevertheless declined significantly since the show’s launch, with Carlson’s most recent show only...
So, let me preface this for context by saying that I'm an ICU nurse. You would be amazed at how many (and often) people come through my unit, literally on their death bed, who will wake up just long enough to get angry, explain how they "think Biden should be tried for treason" or something similarly inflammatory, and then tell me to put the TV on Fox news. They may only be conscious for a little bit, but this is a revolving conversation... These people live for this hateful content, they consume it during every waking moment - but 9 times out of 10 they are too fucking old to go searching for it on the internet.
Fox 'news' is the megaphone and Tucker isn't on the horn anymore.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has endorsed President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, a sign of the president’s strength in uniting his party to have the backing of one of its most liberal members
There is far fewer things there that I don't support than those I do. Considering majority of that list were wildly popular, and in many cases supportive of basic human decency, I suspect it is less about my personal views than you're trying to make it.
A lot of these issues are open on the codeberg dev tracker - In the meantime, check out /m/kbinStyles for a bunch of user created userscripts that fix a lot of the issues people have with the UI/UX.
There is also no way to collapse comments...
Especially check out: @Artillect's Improved collapsible comments
The U.S Supreme Court on Friday was set to rule on the legality of President Joe Biden's plan to cancel $430 billion in student loan debt - a move intended to benefit up to 43 million Americans and fulfill a campaign promise.
Today is the day we should hear definitively; one way or another. It will either help out 43 million Americans, or it will set a new precedent that anyone can sue regardless of being harmed. Should be an interesting day.
I know this is a silly question, especially as I'm currently focused on local-only feeds, but there's just one part of the Fediverse I wish would get more love: PeerTube. While there aren't a lot of people actively looking for alternative video hosts outside the big guys (Twitch, YouTube, Dailymotion, etc.), it would be nice to...
Even if it doesn't federate, I'd still like to see wide adoption of peertube for linking rather than youtube. A popular decentralized video host would be an incredible boon to the internet; offering a path that could potentially (eventually) lead away from YT.
I've started more posts and added more comments through kbin in a week than I did in 12 years on reddit. The community is so much smaller and comments are actually read instead of lost in the sea of shitposting.
Thanks for the link. I don't know the story, but I find it interesting that these two devs are essentially being sponsored to develop Lemmy. What sort of incentive does the sponsor have for funding this development?
Is Kbin dying? I wanted to address the deleted thread and provide some insight into the current situation.
/kbin is certainly not dying, as @fr0g pointed out, work on new features and bug fixes is ongoing. However, it may give the impression that it is, and for that, I take full responsibility and owe you an explanation....
Is there anything that can be done about troll powermods?
I logged into Kbin today to see 18 notifications where the same guy banned me from all of their magazines for downvoting them....

Kbin noob here - Is it the intended experience to take 2 clicks to open an image? (one to open the thread, then another to open the image)
Bonus question: How do you collapse comments? Some threads are busy and hard to navigate without this.

OC Here's my final idea for a Kbin mascot, I call it the "Kbird" (K = Kakatuá), since someone shared a Fediverse flag resembling a pirate flag I thought a bird mascot would fit.

I've felt more compelled to contribute to the "Fediverse" than I ever did on Reddit.
