Considering the level of coordination it takes to make anything cohesive on those, let's see spez try and downplay us again with 'only a small percentage of users'.
A shift to remote working is likely to wipe off $800 billion from the value of office buildings in major global cities by 2030, according to a study published by consulting firm McKinsey on Thursday.
I'm working on an activism campaign kicking off next week opposing some bad internet bills in the US -- here's the magazine I just set up. Once things get going, we'll be sharing links there including information and actions people can take....
More importantly, there is a lot of paid content on older playstore accounts that will require merging with new accounts. There is a lot of us that have been around since gmail was invite-only and made some questionable account names that were later required to be more professional. There was no option to change existing addresses - so new ones were created. Now we have to log into all accounts on our phones to access that content.
So yes, but no, unfortunately... The problem is with defederation. Those of us that are federated with everyone see all of those links, but if one or more of those instances is defederated from others (Like BeeHaw) then they are excluded - and it makes sense to post that link on their instance as well.
This isn't going to be solved by not posting news articles, it will have to be mitigated through a grouping of some sort, like a multireddit for fedi.
Like Gotye and Kimbra sang: Reddit is “someone that I used to know”! Browsing Lemmy, with some subscribed Kbin magazines, fills that need and I haven’t thought about going and checking out Reddit at all. The one subreddit I still do miss is r/BORU - the (probably fake) stories with updates was great reading! Thanks Lemmy...
It's getting there. Kbin just needs a full-featured app and I'll be ready to settle in here for the next decade. ArtemisApp is coming along nicely, though.
Then you block them. Individually at first. If there is a whole instance of them, like exploding-heads or lemmygrad, then you nuke their whole instance and move on.
If you click on the "more" button under a comment or link there will be an activity tab. In this tab you can see everyone who has boosted, favourited or reduced the post. I'm not sure if this a...
I tend to agree. I don't think any of that activity should be public. It doesn't really serve a purpose anyway, and it is an easy metric to scrape for data collection on users...
Like the title says, I'd like to know what's going on with KBin federation? Lemmy content is federating to pretty much all other Lemmy instances just fine, but anything on KBin is taking a very long time to show up on Lemmy, if it ever shows up at all....
I'm noticing the opposite is true as well. There are communities on lemmy that have a lot of threads posted, but only 1 or 2 (or none) show up in kbin.
I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it's because I am limited to using the desktop and can't aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. I found myself...
I've spent FAR more time on kbin than I have reddit since the blackouts. I know the Relay app will be gone at the end of the month, so I figured I'd get a jump on trying to get used to another platform. I refuse to be forcefed ads, so there is no other option for me with reddit as a mobile user.
I'd recommend this one. It's federated, there is no reason to start a kbin specific 'newcommunities' unless the federated one sucks or isn't being used and curated.
I don't think it matters how democratically elected a centralized solution is, it will still require decisions to keep the platform profitable which disenfranchises the users that provide all the content for the platform.
Decentralizing reduces that overhead cost, removes the need for appealing to investors, and places the power back into the users hands. It's currently skewed because everyone is flocking to larger instances, but when people are finally comfortable with the platform we should see a load balancing. And, if people are worried about being defederated on their large instance, they can always self host for almost free and have access to everywhere.
I'm seeing the federated content, but it's hard to tell where the content came from. Currently, the only reliable way to see the source is by reading the URL when you're viewing a thread. It doesn't work well on mobile though and it doesn't work for the feed....
This is the point that needs to be conveyed. Not every comment requires a full engagement of conversation. A quick up/down vote to show agreement is all that's needed and we shouldn't require unnecessary fluff.
Additionally, having a log of people's liked comments sounds like an incredible source of abuse for people scraping user data...
