This is an ancient tradition in many Asian countries, it’s not new. Jute, hemp, other natural materials used widely. Bamboos still make furnitures.
But the quick-fix climate solution-givers from capitalists present it as ‘novel’. What’d they think people used before plastics?🤔

@0uterzenith I have spent the last couple of days banging on this in anticipation of moving from Evernote. Both Obsidian and Joplin look like they would work for you. I've decided on Joplin for a number of reasons that are important to me.

  1. It syncs natively through Dropbox.
  2. It has clients for Windows, Linux, and iOS so all my devices can access it through Dropbox. Obsidian requires a subscription to support iOS.
  3. It imports the Evernote .ENEX folder export files natively and pretty cleanly.

I found a web browser extension called "MarkdownLoad" that lets you capture all or part of a web page and save it to a markdown file (.MD) that you can then import into either. Solves the one issue I was really worried about in moving from Evernote.

    @linuxgal Unethical Life Pro Tip: You could talk to a human operator to find out how much a call would cost. Depositing coins would make bells ring; a different tone fir each denomination. You could record those tones and play them for the operator who would be fooled into believing you paid the fee and would connect your call.

    If I read a book to inform myself, put my notes in a database, and then write articles, it is called "research". If I write a computer program to read a book to put the notes in my database, it is called "copyright infringement". Is the problem that there just isn't a meatware component? Or is it that the OpenAI computer isn't going a good enough job of following the "three references" rule to avoid plagiarism?

    Reddit feels like it's gone back to 100% normalcy already. Was the protest a failure? (beehaw.org)

    I was looking at reddit today, and the front-page felt like nothing happened. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and clicked into comments. Everything is popping off buzzing with activity. All the subreddits I was subscribed to that went dark are now back up and business as usual....

    I view the protest as a shot across the bow. The warning about how much impact the changes are going to cause if Reddit doesn't back off. Reddit management has gone with "damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead". It is the next round that is going to indicate whether mods and users are really ready to bail.

    The whole point of swearing on the bible was to get God to be involved in enforcing the oath. So your disbelief may negate this aspect. On the gripping hand, you also swear in front of a government representative to get the gubmint involved in enforcing the oath. And if it is in their interest to enforce the oath; they will. With guns if necessary.

    This exactly. Employers will put pressure on all wages with the simple "I can pay a 16 year old $8 an hour to do the same thing. So I CAN'T give you more."

    1 - Tenure just got thrown out.

    To implement these reforms, the superintendent is requiring every employee in the 29 schools, from the janitor to the principal, to reapply for their job.

    2 - No libraries.

    Miles has said that librarians will likely be eliminated—because, in his view, their job consists only of “checking out books,”

    3 - Fire Brigade method of staffing.

    “He seems to be taking an approach that’s based on the idea of equity, the idea of finding the strongest educators in the entire district and moving them to the campuses that have the greatest number of students with unmet needs.”

    4 - Big Brother comes to the classroom. Not mentioned was the additional staffing to watch monitors and "disciplinary enforcers" needed to remove poorly behaving students and watch them in the separate room.
