It's been a good time here on kbin.social. But the lack of perspective and communication has done it for me. I lost hope that the instance would heal eventually and will move to another place instead. Hope you're ok Ernest and all the best for the future.
I hope it goes on. And being open source, it definitely will! (e.g. Mbin)
Ernest likewise will be remembered, fondly or otherwise, for his contributions in starting it.
That said, I’m close to personally blocking it due to all the spam hitting other servers from it, and the FBI may come knocking soon as well if people decide to hit it with illegal stuff like CP.
There are a myriad of news articles here on Lemmy that display the abhorrent influence billionaires have on our society (especially the US, where I reside). I consistently read comments where the posters appear hopeless and despondent of the situation, while others jokingly refer to the guillotine....
Remember that company that made the base pay $70,000 for everyone. News was predicting (hoping) they would fail in a year. They didn’t, and big surprise, they have amazing staff retention. We need more companies like that. Places that pay well where people want to work. They would eventually pull away all the talent from the horde companies and shut them down. It would be a long fight, but glorious to see the workers sip tea and watch their old companies fail. This is how you beat the current system, by making egalitarian companies that can actually compete with them, where people are proud to work and get paid a living wage.
Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...
You could also go the route of directly downloading from spotify with Zotify. If you got premium it downloads in full 320kps. (Make sure to use the –download-real-time=True toggle to raise no suspicion for spotify servers. This way you download as fast as if you were listening to the songs/audiobooks yourself. Its a command line tool. Though if it can remove possible DRM Watermarks from the audiostream - no clue. But i wouldnt think they actually do that.
So many people that take psychology courses end up working in the advertisement industry because that’s where the jobs are if you have a psychology degree. My understanding is that it’s not so much a “controversy” as a general dislike. We tend to dislike people who we feel are interpreting every little thing we say, no matter how innocuous, in the worst possible light. We tend to dislike people who hurl insults at us unprovoked, who respond to simple questions with weird pictures of Gargamel and other such content.
And then there’s the existence of communities they have solely for the purpose of harassing other non-hexbear users and brigading communities from instances with the misfortune of federating with them, harassment campaigns which appear to be tolerated, if not encouraged, by certain other instances ending in .ml
While I have some serious political concerns with some of their shared views, I also think I’d have a lot in common with them – a concern for LGBT+ rights, for instance – and for the plight of the working class. Sadly, my experience has led me instead to instantly blocking any hexbear account on sight and disengaging with any of their content. I think other users in the fediverse have had similar such experiences. I’ve seen entire instances attempt to tolerate them, only to find that they’re just inviting piranhas to the goldfish tank, and consequently defederating them.
Almost all of my own padlocks have been picked, save for just two, the ABUS 64TI/40 and the Master lock LOTO. Still relatively new to the tubular lock game, so the yellow Urban bike disk brake lock as also eluded me....
I’ve only on track 3 (I’m no expert, but it streams for me as embedded in the Metal Injection article, but not when I navigate to the album directly on Bandcamp’s site), but it’s a whole lotta fun so far
For our business we use a number of different apps and websites but only two of them offer 2FA with a security key. The rest allow for an authenticator app. In this case, it seems just using an authenticator app would be best for consistency and without needing to purchase keys....
So long and thanks for the nice time.

If kbin is going down for planned maintenance can the generic ‘ Over the next few days, there will be a change in server infrastructure…’ text at least be dated
It’s impossible to tell if there is an actual server upgrade, or they have just gone down, displaying the message from last time.
You end up homeless. You have no family, friends, job, in demand job skills, money, credit cards, or car. What would you do to get out of that situation?
