Valve quietly not publishing games that contain AI generated content if the submitters can't prove they own the rights to the assets the AI was trained on
One of the cool things about the #redditmigration & the rise of #Kbin & #Lemmy is it is a big positive to both the #threadiverse and the existing users on the Fedi:
On the Threadiverse side: Lots of brand new blood from fleeing Reddit new users now discovering the Fediverse for the first time. New blood. New ideas.
On the Masto/Fedi side:
I think many are seeing REAL federation from/to an entirely other type of Fedi platform for the first time in the wild.
It really works. Opening eyes.
@tchambers I think some of the federation is not perfected yet. I follow my kbin account on Mastodon but do nto see all my boosts. However, I can interact really well from my Mastodon account to the startrek.website instances. I can post to the community from Mastodon by @ing it, I can follow and like posts and comments.
Honestly, that would be similar to the Twitter Migration. A lot of the good users left, and a ton of eyeballs remained at Twitter. Twitter became worse, Mastodon got better.
Reddit will lose a lot of the best users, keep a bunch of eyeballs. If the best users come to the fediverse, then it's still a win for the fediverse because they've made it better here.
I decided to take a peek at Reddit to see what kind of activity is happening, a good handful of the subreddits I am subscribed to are still super active with posts and commenters....
I think it's time for me to come clean about this. I kinda became addicted to Reddit, but most importantly, reddit stories. It became part of my routine to listen to podcasts that read reddit stories. NGL it's really enjoyable, but there is always some people that debates if the stories are true....
Okay, so lying is wrong but I have to say sometimes in the discussions around fake posts people can be learning important things, and talking about important things. A lot of drama centers on narcissism and abuse, and we discuss red flags in dramatic posts.
And if the "cannibal dad" post was you, that was quite entertaining.
How to turn off "Random Posts" and "Random Threads"
No, I don't want to see your vagina.
No, I don't want your Christian Parenting tips.
Other than using ad-blocker rules, is there any way to tell Kbin that I'm not interested in the random content it tries to offer when looking at my /sub?
This comic goes over the political history of technology in the workforce, showing that even automation to reduce manual labor was introduced as class warfare against the laborers, and that sabotage, protests and legal action were needed to preserve worker's rights.
Seventy-seven percent of middle-age Americans (35-54 years old) say they want to return to a time before society was “plugged in,” meaning a time before there was widespread internet and cell phone usage. As told by a new Harris Poll (via Fast Company), 63% of younger folks (18-34 years old) were also keen on returning to a...
I bet this is more about the stress of being constantly available to your boss, your parents, your teachers, your neediest friends than about wanting a world without technology.
Okay, so right now government agencies, schools, and small business often use Facebook or Twitter for their web presence rather than start their own websites. For a few days there, while Twitter had the login-wall up and was rate-limiting, we had some serious problems wtih Amber Alerts, weather notices, safety notices and other...
A big problem because it means a federal worker in NYC gets as much as a federal worker in Mississippi. That it hasn't changed for 20 years suggests both are underpaid, but the NYC worker has definitely got to get another job.
It probably goes against the philosophy or whatever of FOSS or Lemmy itself, but why not be a little evil so that you can actually sustain yourself? Donations can bring us far, but small non-intrusive ads can be a bliss in the skies for the people actually hosting the instance. Especially if there are millions of users uploading...

"Protest and dissent is important,” Reddit CEO Steve Huffman told the AP. “The problem with this one is it’s not going to change anything."
Took a peek on Reddit, it really boggles my mind how oblivious and obedient people are.

Confession. I wrote a lot of fake stories on Reddit.
