The reason the bus driver has a seat belt and the kids don't is because the kids have a padded seat back in front of them to stop them from launching forward in a crash. The bus driver has nothing but glass and the open road in front of them to stop them from launching forward in a crash. And seat belts help protect the bus driver from the airbags as they deploy from the steering wheel which have been known to deploy so forcefully that if you're not wearing a seat belt they can kill you, and even in some extreme circumstances completely decapitate you.

Also as someone else pointed out the kids could get trapped in their seats in the event of a fire. The bus driver has a little seat belt cutting tool available to them, but in a fire they might not have time to cut 72 seat belts to free all of the kids on a big bus.

You might ask, well what if the bus rolls? It's pretty unlikely that the bus would roll because bus drivers are trained pretty extensively and have to go through periodic medical exams and driving exams to make sure they're capable of doing the job safely. Even if the bus were in a situation where it might roll, it's very bottom heavy so it would take quite a lot to get it to tip over.

The other advantage of buses is that they have a lot of inertia due to their mass. The most likely thing for them to hit is a car and most likely because that car made a mistake. The bus can easily push a car out of the way without losing too much velocity. The same is not true of your average civilian vehicle.

The only thing that's different between Chrome and Firefox for the average user is that WebGL doesn't work (yet) in Firefox, which I know is technical, but it means some websites that need more graphics processing won't work in Firefox. Since WebGL is fairly new, I haven't run across it much, only once or twice.

This is a popular misconception but there's a lot of evidence that shows early human societies were egalitarian and men and women equally participated in hunting and gathering. Especially after tools like the ahtlotl (a spear-throwing device) became common place.

It's not exactly a misconception that I've ever really held, but I absolutely hate the lazy writing trope in TV/film where hitting someone over the head and knocking them out is used so commonly and casually and there are never any repercussions.

In reality, if you get hit on the head hard enough that you lose consciousness for any length of time, you're almost certainly going to suffer very serious brain damage. If you wake up at all - yes, it's quite possible you'd die from this - then you're going to have a major concussion, a huge headache, and probably a fracture in your skull and your brain will be swelling up inside your skull. It's a VERY serious injury, and yet it's just played off as this casual thing on TV and I think it's incredibly dangerous how casually it's depicted.

A lot of it is also tied up with religion. Flat Earthers, for example, started by trying to reconcile biblical explanations of the Earth and the universe and it spiraled from there.

Just so this discussion doesn't devolve the same way, odd numbers are numbers that can't be evenly divided by 2. So the only numbers that can be odd will all end in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 - or "one", "three", "five", "seven", or "nine" all of which have an "e" in them.

Blaming the behaviour of individual people is a strategy employed by the oil industry to shift the blame. I wonder who's funding these scientists... Yes, the individual should try to shift their behaviour, but claiming the majority of the blame rests on each of us is nonsense when the richest 1% of people are responsible for more emissions than the poorest 50% of people is pretty disingenuous if you ask me.

I do understand that, I think you're missing something here. I said "Yes, the individual should try to shift their behaviour", so yeah I agree with you. What I'm saying is that lobbyists for the ultra wealthy try to shift all of the guilt and blame onto the individual as a distraction from more important causes.

I find this line really funny. Anyone familiar with cosmology knows that most cosmologists agree that our current models are lacking. After all, that's what dark matter and dark energy are, unknown variables in the current cosmological model. It seems odd to me then that they're acting as though they're a minority when most cosmologists agree, it's just that the current model is the best one we have, so if you don't want it "swept under the rug" then don't just prove the old model wrong, make a new model that fits every observation.

The stages ramp up in severity until we're at full gas chamber Nazi status by stage 9 and stage 10 is denying any crime occurred.

I'd say Israel and Palestine were already at like stage 6 before this, now it's at like stage 8. It's not clear if Israel actually plans on exterminating all Palestinians, but it sure seems like that's where they're leading things.

In most European countries you need a 4 year university degree in criminology to become a cop. They have the same standards for average police officers as we in North America have for Federal law enforcement. So while it's certainly true that some European countries have shitty cops, the ones with stricter barriers to entry have slightly less shitty cops.

Here's an interactive map although it does seem to be missing a fair bit of data for Europe. The USA has the most abysmal Police training time at just 500 hours of training between being a civilian and being a Police officer.

In case anyone wasn't aware, nearly all space photos that you've ever seen have had their colours tweaked. It's standard practice in space photography. Nebulae and galaxies and planets aren't as colourful as they appear in photos. They do it either to make the features more obvious for study, or just to make them pop more to drum up interest in space exploration. Nothing wrong with it, just be aware that what you see isn't reality but an interpretation.
