Seventy-seven percent of middle-age Americans (35-54 years old) say they want to return to a time before society was “plugged in,” meaning a time before there was widespread internet and cell phone usage. As told by a new Harris Poll (via Fast Company), 63% of younger folks (18-34 years old) were also keen on returning to a...
Anyone I talk to regularly, would not care if I didn't answer their texts for a few days. My phone is always on vibrate or silent. I engage with people only as much as I want to.
What I'm saying is all that stuff can be changed if you want it to.
This is the heart of the issue. People don't feel like they are allowed to take time to themselves. In reality all it takes is not answering the messages if you don't feel like it. Hell, you don't even have to look at them.
I've never been a fan of dogs. They make me nervous. I like animals, but dogs are just too needy, destructive, and abrasive. Working dogs are fine, but pets/companion dogs really bother me....
It's similar to why I get looks for disliking cats. People love their pets and confuse disliking a type of animal for disliking their pet in particular.
When I gave my mom some assessment paperwork to fill out, she started blaming everyone and everything for not diagnosing me. Some people just refuse to admit they could have been wrong.
For me its when someone tells me to bring them something. If i try to find something that i need, i will find it really quickly. If someone is asking me to find something for them in a room, it is like i become blind and even if its in front of me, it is really hard to find it.
Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument....
Hell yeah dude. I've been through heart-wrenching loss and triumphant joys that technically never happened. Yet there's a group of us that experienced it together and are now emotionally richer for it. It's an almost purely social experience that teaches us how to deal with other humans and explore scenarios that the average person would never touch.
D&D and TTRPGs in general should be considered more often when talking about the development of social skills. I've learned a ton about clear and effective communication, how to converse with people I would normally never talk to, and how to be considerate of the feelings/opinions of others while not losing sight of my own.
Dude, lawyer is literally one of the,"My kid is a big success" jobs. It's privileged because it requires a ton of work and study before you're even allowed to do it. Not to mention the insane amount of work the job itself is.
Besides NADDPOD and Worlds Without Number, I've been enjoying Tales from the Stinky Dragon. It's a D&D podcast by rooster teeth and it has a wonderful chaos to it.
Ernest actually reminds me of u/ljdawson, the dev behind the Sync app. He's responsive, takes criticism well, and seems to genuinely care about the platform he's created. Hard to go wrong with that.
People really do sleep on the UI. I tried lemmy.world first and immediately got hit with a white background/black text site. I couldn't find a way to change it so I moved over to Kbin. Same deal, flashbang. But on Kbin the gear icon is obvious and the first setting is the site theme. That speaks to an understanding of the average user that I think will serve Kbin well.
I did a bit of both. Got a continent name and the name of some regions. Then a few city names and important places in them. Working on the big stuff is fun, making countries, histories, that kind of thing. But the thing I like best is getting into the small details. What do the streets look like? Are there any vendors on the...
That honestly seems like the way to go. Though I've heard plenty of stories about worlds starting from a single town. I'm lucky in that my world is for D&D, so certain aspects can be shaped by players and I just need to make it fit somewhere.
So far the mobile browser experience has been spot on. I have a foldable and it switches pretty easily. It takes a sec to reload the page, but nothing crazy. A dedicated app would be nice though, I miss using Sync.
The YouTube channel Pointy Hat recently had their 100,000 sub special on the Feywild. They created a short adventure (1-2 sessions, obo 3-4 hours each) set in the Feywild. The video it's attached to is kind of long (~40 min) but is an excellent look at the Feywild. The actual portion covering the adventure gives tips on running it as well. I've read it over and it's pretty well put together.
Think of it like this, if reddit suddenly does a 180 and goes back to the old ways, you can just make another account. Another chance to experience it again.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to go back i promise, quite the contrary actually cause I think spez plans to just decrease the cost of the API and act like it was a bargain deal sacrifice while not solving any of the issues at all...
I created this meme just for posting and testing how you can see your posts across apps. (lemmy.world)
I'm not seeing the post, just comments responding in my inboxes. how do you find the actual post?

What is the most annoying ADHD trait that you have?
For me its when someone tells me to bring them something. If i try to find something that i need, i will find it really quickly. If someone is asking me to find something for them in a room, it is like i become blind and even if its in front of me, it is really hard to find it.

Obviously this migration is all about 3rd party apps. Do any even exist yet for kbin?
