had 18k signups yesterday before they closed down registration temporarily for server load, which is 10% of their size in a day. Otherwise they had between 2k and 4k signups per day. Considering that the team didnt hand out extra invite codes, this is a clear indication that over the last month bluesky's growth actually was not limited by invite codes. There was simply a large number of invite codes floating around in the system unused. A catalyst was needed to boost their growth again

@laurenshof So were new users actually able to sign up for ? I tried a few months ago, but never heard back about an invite code.

This is hilarious. It appears that Twitter is DDOSing itself.

The Twitter home feed's been down for most of this morning. Even though nothing loads, the Twitter website never stops trying and trying.

In the first video, notice the error message that I'm being rate limited. Then notice the jiggling scrollbar on the right.

The second video shows why it's jiggling. Twitter is firing off about 10 requests a second to itself to try and fetch content that never arrives because Elon's latest genius innovation is to block people from being able to read Twitter without logging in.

This likely created some hellish conditions that the engineers never envisioned and so we get this comedy of errors resulting in the most epic of self-owns, the self-DDOS.

Unbelievable. It's amateur hour.

A mostly still movie of a Twitter feed showing a rate limited error message and a jiggling scrollbar indicating repeated attempts to load a resource.
Firefox network console showing 10 requests to twitter.com zooming by per second.

@sysop408 Wouldn't surprise me if all the "data scraping" was actual being self-induced.

This last week I have been rewatching for the first time in about a decade or so.

Aside from some slightly ropey CGI in some scenes (mostly Cylon movement), it's just as enjoyable as it was the first time round some 20yrs ago.

Fuck... 20yrs ago... I feel so old.

Currently halfway through season 2.

Season three is my favorite. The whole lore of the series really unfolds and makes it feel unique.

I just finished the main series for the first time a few weeks ago, despite fully watching seasons 1-3 at least four times. Such a satisfying ending.

I just picked up Blood & Chrome, The Plan, and Caprica a few days ago. Can’t wait!

If you're here from Reddiit, please remember to use the boost link in the post rather than the Upvote button, as the Upvote is meaningless to a user's reputation.

@NotTheOnlyGamer maybe we shouldn’t encourage people to try and farm internet points. It might make so people engage in actual discussion rather than try to be the internet’s funny man.

How can you block a whole domain? I’m seeing a lot of NSFW posts from one Lemmy instance that aren’t being flagged as such. I could block the Magazine, but I would like to block the whole instance outright.

Side note, it is kinda annoying that you have to go inside the Magazine to block it.

@shepherd

Me too! I had no idea that you could view a who instances thread via the /d/ path! Neat little feature! Thank you!

I've been playing around with some custom stylings for my magazine, /m/bsg and noticed that I can't really use pseudo elements.

Whenever I try and use one, the content rule is always escaped which renders the whole pseudo element invalid.

For example if I have this custom CSS:

.options__main::before {
	content: 'BSG';
}

It will become this in the browser:

.options__main::before {
	content: &#039
}

It looks like all quote characters are escaped when saved to the database.

Ah, it turns out this is a known issue:
