couragethecowardlydog,

Once revanced goes I'll use NewPipe, once NewPipe goes I guess I'll go to the library for my useless knowledge.

couragethecowardlydog,

True but you should still be able to delete your account and your comments and username leave the service. Online privacy isn't about completely disappearing, but making yourself so hard to track the average person won't bother digging.

Why are conversations on Reddit often so hostile and toxic now days?

Reddit used to be a great platform to discuss some topic and get different points of few in a friendly but factual manner. However, slowly it seems like the platform has become a lot more like Facebook, where it's been invaded by toxic people that are constantly looking for opportunities to shit and hate on others....

couragethecowardlydog,

This. Reddit left will be talking shit about how violent right wingers are then in the next thread be calling for violence against them. I am pretty left on most issues before anyone jumps in to call me a fascist lol

couragethecowardlydog,

Anyone else tired of every other fediverse post being about how bad Reddit is ?

OC I created a site that helps people search the fediverse (programmer2514.github.io)

I had been having trouble getting meaningful results from the fediverse on Google, and after seeing this post, it seems I'm not the only one. So, I created a site that helps search the fediverse in your search engine of choice (it currently supports Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Dogpile)....

I have a smart home and let me give you some advice. BE MINDFUL OF THE BRANDS YOU CHOOSE. For example, using tuya smart devices with home assistant is a pain, you have to setup a tuya cloud account and get an API key that you'll have to renew every few months. If the device gets reset you have to go back into the cloud environment and re-add them. It's such a pain. Almost anything works with home assistant, but the amount of diy and bullshit you have to deal with to get something working varies greatly between brands. I highly recommend sonoff, also get a zigabee controller for home assistant as its far better than using WiFi. I also recommend you start a notion document or some other form of document that can keep up with everything for you. What brand of switches are in what room, what brand of lights are where, etc. Not just for you but if you ever sell your home you can give it to the next guy. Because you're probably not going to take the light switches or any in line relays with you.

Also to not connect to the internet you need to have a separate network (router or access point) that all your smart devices connect to. You'll then use a VPN to connect to your home network remotely. Basically have your smart devices router hooked into your normal router and on your normal router block external traffic (the Internet) from going to the smart devices router. Sorry if that's hard to follow but just Google "how to segment a home network" and that should get you started. Feel free to hmu if you need some guidance.

couragethecowardlydog,

I love federation but I just don't see it reaching the masses. People want connectivity and simplicity. I am willing to accept a centralized solution if it's a non profit who takes care of moderators. Centralization isn't always terrible, look at Wikipedia.

couragethecowardlydog,

I agree, all those are super easy to use for an end user. I think maybe we need a website where a user can just check a couple boxes about what there interests are and it will automatically choose their instance for them. Would make it easier for those new to the fediverse to get up and going.

couragethecowardlydog,

I actually do really like kbin, I just thought I'd share this after I stumbled across it.

couragethecowardlydog,

Yeah I think that's where things are going. I myself use kbin.social far more than I use my lemmy.ml or lemmy.world accounts.

couragethecowardlydog,

This is 100% the problem. Makes me wonder if I should write a webpage just for automating signups.

couragethecowardlydog,

Is it going to be horrible ? No. Just from the gameplay I've seen I can tell you I'm going to have a good time. Will it live up to my personal expectations? Absolutely not. But neither did cyberpunk and anytime someone asks me for a good cyberpunk game I don't hesitate to tell the cp2077 is in a league of it's own, despite all the shortcomings.

The kbin/lemmy app is coming along. Here´s a little preview of the upcoming beta! Heavy inspiration from Apollo. The app will be available for both iOS and Android. (imgur.com)

The dev, @hariette, also has a Mastodon profile where she posts updates https://tech.lgbt/@hariette. There is also a link to the apps discord server in her bio.

couragethecowardlydog,

I'm gonna assume scraping

couragethecowardlydog,

If you use kbin on mobile and want this right now swap the layout to compact.

couragethecowardlydog,

Base64 encoded Megalinks. The real OGs know what I'm talking about lol

couragethecowardlydog,

If we could find something that's the same across every Lemmy instance I could craft a Google dork for it. Like if every instance contains the same header or something similar. There's loads of things Google indexes that aren't just domain names.

couragethecowardlydog,

This is the answer

couragethecowardlydog,

As someone who has worked in the heat before this is beyond cruel.

couragethecowardlydog, to internet

According to users on is now restoring users deleted and edited comments. We expected this but what I didn't expect was to find an FAQ from Reddit stating that they cannot ever restore deleted comments.

Lemmy source: https://lemmy.ml/post/1290893

Reddit FAQ: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043483451-If-I-delete-a-post-or-comment-can-it-be-restored-

couragethecowardlydog,

I wish you didn't have to be rooted for revanced to edit the official reddit app. If any of you are rooted and want to patch a Reddit APK for me with all patches I'd greatly appreciate it.

couragethecowardlydog,

If they do that I'll write a script that simulates button clicks to delete them all.

schizanon, to piracy

caps your internet at like 1tb per month, so what I like to do is connect to my neighbors' "xfinitywifi" (that they probably don't even know they are providing to everyone for free) and do my from there because it doesn't count against my home internet cap!

couragethecowardlydog,

@schizanon don't you have to login using your account? I thought it still counted against your accounts data cap?

couragethecowardlydog,

It is easy to forget that practically no one knows what plex, emby, or jellyfin are.
