Just a quick and dirty userscript to add some features I feel are super important. I'll probably look into creating some real PRs, but I figure the devs are probably in "put out fires" mode right now....
It looks like kbin.social is in the final stages of migrating their site, and merging a whole bunch of improvements. Having their ~5k users federating with us again will be nice
Yeah right now there's https://browse.feddit.de/ to browse communities, but putting that in an app (and adding some sorting/filtering options) would be a killer feature
edit: that site only shows Lemmy communities, not kbin ones
First post here- I think absolutely everyone should watch Everything Everywhere All At Once. It's an absurdist comedy. It's a multiverse thriller. It's philosophical without being pretentious. It's a coming-of-age story and an exploration of a midlife crisis. It's a richly layered film that I think almost anyone can relate to on...
Yeah, reddit could have made a mid-level tier for third party apps and only charged the highest prices to AI companies, and they could have given a much longer transition period for app developers - we would be having a much different discussion then.
One thing that I've always liked is the endless scrolling. IDK if there's a way to endlessly scroll through magazines but maybe that would make it more like reddit /r/all ... Because I would almost always go there and scroll for thousands of pages....
I turned that option on on the first day, and turned it back off after a few hours. The cloudflare verification affects this too, so after a while of scrolling it'll just hang forever trying to load the next page.
I apologize if this has already been covered, but I’ve seen a lot of people talking about a need for a kbin app. While I agree that a native app would be nice to have eventually, I figured that quite a few people probably aren’t aware of how web apps work. I don’t use Android, so I have no idea if there is an equivalent...
I was initially introduced to Mastodon a few years ago by a close friend and picked up on it quickly given the benefits of not having to deal with advertising, or being shown what a mega-corporation thought I should have to see through algorithms. I have since found a great instance over on cupoftea.social that promotes quality...
I've been hearing about Mastodon for a few years now, but honestly, twitter never really clicked with me so I wasn't that interested in checking Mastodon out either. I started looking in to Reddit alternatives because of the API changes. I've used Apollo for my Reddit usage almost exclusively; after the first announcement, I was thinking that I just wouldn't use Reddit as frequently, but the way spez has reacted to the outcry and slandered the Apollo dev, I'm completely out.
So on to the alternatives - I really like the federated aspect now that I understand it. I don't want to have to sign up for a dozen different sites just to keep up on communities. I like being able to sign up on kbin and still follow conversations on beehaw. I ended up choosing kbin over lemmy since I can dip my toe into microblogging from here (again, less accounts to keep track of).
I ended up hearing about kbin (and lemmy, and other standalone sites like tildes and squabbles) from r/Apollo, since people were looking for where to go. I'm honestly hoping the Apollo dev will pivot to working on a fediverse app. I have no idea how much work that would take on the backend, but I do really like the UI,
Best way to do it imo, rather than an indefinite blackout. Do the blackout, and then show what it's like when mods aren't using all the third-party tools.
I'm genuinely so excited to see some of the more focussed communities blossom on this platform as they have on Reddit over the years. Which are your favourites and which do you think could succeed here?

Kbin.social turning federation back on "soon" (kbin.social)

So what corners have redditors gathered to during the blackout?
Here (kbin), Lemmy, Tildes... I hear Mastodon had a user spike. Is there something obvious I'm missing?...
What's one movie from the past five years that you think everyone should watch?

“The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable. But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free,” said Steve Huffman, CEO of Reddit. (daringfireball.net)
Is there any question?
Endless Scrolling

Hey keebinetters and fediverse, what are your favourite kbin/fediverse magazines (communities)?
Lets make a thread to post our niches that we have found here. Big magazines are ok too....
For iOS users looking for an app, there is a quick and easy solution

OC How did you end up finding kbin? Did you migrate here from Reddit?
