I wouldn't be so hopeful, Twitch has pretty much remained unbeaten and the only "ad block" solution I've found still gives a 30 second interruption of the stream, it just doesn't show the ad anymore. It's why I don't use the site anymore, even with Twitch Turbo as an option these days.
If anything, the real laughing is all of the stuff we've been doing to fuck with reddit anyway. Destroying subs, burning posts and comments, deleting accounts.
I grew up browsing the Facepunch forums, where self-rating posts was also possible and public at least at one point in time.
To be blunt, it kinda just made everyone who did it look like a tool and they got hella made fun of. So no, you're not the only one, I avoid upvoting my own stuff like the plague.
One of my close friends decided that she's no longer enjoying games so she offered to sell it to me for really cheap (100$). I love gaming but since I switched to Mac a few years ago my choices have been very limited. I've been mostly playing indie games that are available on Mac. So I've been thinking about her offer....
Considering the last time they released anything with official mod support was Skyrim SE (the non-Switch, non-VR versions) I'm surprised to see them mention mod support at all, especially considering that Gamepass will almost assuredly break script extenders in some way.
Me and my buddy are using different system now. I’m in PC and he’s in PS5. We were playing Genshin and it started to be very boring. Do you guys know any games that support crossplay, free or paid, that are good....
People never cared. Just look at CoD, MWII was the fastest-selling game in franchise history and it's the same company. People don't give a damn unless it personally affects them.
I dunno, I don't really see it as "respecting my time." Historically, games like this have been hit or miss for me, so I never wanted to blow over $20 on it, and I certainly don't feel like $35. I would much rather just play something else I already own or can get for cheaper until I can buy the game on a whim instead of having to commit and play "check every nook and cranny for deal-breakers during the refund window."
I would also far prefer something like what BattleBit Remastered is doing. Game came out for $15, it's one of the best shooters I've played in years, so I bought the $20 supporter pack for some in-game cosmetics. Low entry price and rewards for further support. I fundamentally disagree with raising prices on existing products and hate this idea of price FOMO that has extended past early access.
Mine happened when i first made a reddit account, i got banned from a subreddit with a tankie moderator because i questioned the logic of having lenin as the subreddits profile, for a subreddit devoted to anti conservative memes.
Lemmy.ml is a stain on the fediverse. As much as Dessalines and Nutomic preach that "if you don't like our moderation policy you can start your own instance," lemmy.ml's dominant position means it's hard to realistically defederate and ignore, so by default their (unclear and tankie belief-based) moderation policy is effectively getting enforced no matter what.
I tried using the "block instance" feature kbin supposedly has, but it didn't work. On the upside, lemmy.world, kbin.social, and beehaw.org seem to be doing quite well.

They wouldn't be doing this if Sony hadn't kept doing it and the gaming community kept trashing the Xbox One for "not having exclusives." Phil Spencer has gone on record saying that he doesn’t like exclusives.
I was wondering how the pre-reddit lemmy members feel about the influx of ex-reddit. Have things got worst or better? Is there any lemmy etiquette that we are missing?
I dunno, we've had some trash get popular over the years, but I kinda enjoy the "absurd surrealism" meme culture we've got now where nobody bats an eye at hearing the phrase "shadow money wizard gang," which is in fact a real thing.
I can understand not wanting to be referred to as CIS, it's hardly like everyone associates good connotations with the prefix considering the high tensions that can come in relevant discussions, but to outright ban it is absurd. To be clear,
Banning use of a word that’s part of our daily vocabulary around the world
it's not part of everyone's daily vocabulary around the world, and that is precisely the problem. I grew up in shithole Oklahoma, and the only time I have ever heard or said the word in-person is when talking with my trans friend, and I literally had to remember what the prefix was last time I was having a discussion involving it. I learned about the word not from someone who was politely explaining to me the difference, but from a very openly hostile person referring to CIS people as "scum" online. That's a really shitty first impression. I get that it's not actually an offensive term, but the feelings I was experiencing when I learned the meaning have sure stuck around and I don't generally enjoy using the term. If, instead, the term was more normalized, it'd just be a normal run-of-the-mill word to me that I wouldn't have a problem associating with.
I feel like banning it and calling it a "slur" is literally only problematic for these sorts of reasons and will lead to continued pointless division of something that should just be a basic descriptor. It's misleading, will associate negative emotions with the word, and will in turn hamper LGBTQ+ acceptance as the phrase is continually thrown around.
tl;dr Musk is a dumb fucking idiot that is going to harm society.
I mix Coke and Orange Juice to wake up in the morning sometimes. My wife that dips steak in ranch dressing and friend that eats peanut butter and ham sandwiches hate it.
It's impressively usable, but there are certainly some problems with it right now. I haven't made a second account to use a Lemmy app because I don't want two accounts to access the same set of content, but I am eagerly awaiting the API coming online so that app devs can start working on a more polished mobile solution.
I want to say that I've been deleting my reddit comments since before the blackout and more keep appearing every time I look at top or controversial. It's a good idea to start a delete script and then keep checking until comments stop showing up or reddit makes an API change that breaks it or whatever.
You don't need the latest and greatest in either case. If you were to slap any recent budget GPU into a Dell Optiplex or similar that can be found for cheap, then pick up an Xbox Series S for $300 or less, you'd have a PC for eSports titles, older games, checking out free game giveaways like on Epic and GOG, plenty of Prime Gaming games if a Prime member, and anything with lower system requirements, then a box that'll get games for the next ~7 years, can do game emulation when in the $20 developer mode, and has a $15/mo gaming Netflix subscription that is regularly updated and hundreds of titles strong.
That's a lot of value, and with the prices I've seen it'd come out to about $700 or less before any subscriptions come into play, which have also gotten way less necessary recently thanks to the rise of F2P titles.
I'm hoping for a transition from Boost! for Reddit, personally. That was the client I enjoyed using.
My problem is that I'm also using kbin, and kbin's API is disabled so it makes more sense for everyone to make a Lemmy app instead. Don't know if they'll bother to implement kbin support once it's up and running.
I've seen Kbeans and I think it's both funny and useful. Cartoony beans would make a great snoo replacement, both in logo and if Ernest plans on adding an equivalent to reddit's user snoos.
Half-Life is a unique case where there's not really a best way to play tbh. There's the pre-Steam version with 90s-era features like view roll, there's the modern Steam version that loses those and introduces the exploding crowbar corpse bug but has more modern stuff like proper widescreen and support for the HD models from the PS2 version, the PS2 version has all of the HD models as well but also includes bonuses like animated health dispensers and Decay, Half-Life: Source has a way better flashlight, ragdoll physics, and Garry's Mod content support, but also ruins the anti-tiling texture system, makes the tentacle boss do no damage, and softlocks at the Gonarch, Black Mesa isn't perfectly faithful and makes a good many changes but is a fantastic recreation nonetheless and improves on Xen by far, Sven Co-Op officially includes the Half-Life campaign for free so one can play it with friends if they choose, and there are multiple VR versions depending on if you're playing on Quest or Steam.
It's all very subjective, I'd say the only definitive thing we can say is that Half-Life Source is the worst.
That, and you don't need to deal with browser features getting in the way. Like, if I scroll up, the url bar in Firefox pops up. Plus, apps can add features that the sites themselves don't have. As an example, Boost! for reddit had quick account switching.
