Been there this last friday, absolutely sucks and ruins my weekend with all the guilt and not being able to rest since now I have the urgent feel to do everything to make up for what I didn't do on friday.

I know we shouldn't being so hard on us but it's just so difficult sometimes.

Yeah, this grinds my gears. I use to comment my code when I'm working on my personal projects, then at the office I have to waste time trying to decipher my boss's code because he won't comment absolutely anything.

That plus the ridiculous deadlines means that I don't have time to comment my own code, fast forward several months later without working on a particular project and now I have to decipher his and my own code.

One day he actually had the nerve to say to me: 'Yeah, you should comment your code'. How I refrained of commiting murder that day I don't know.

How many people here have actually used XMPP?

With all the current discussion about the threat that Instagram Threads has on the Fediverse and that article about how Google Embrace Extend Extinguished XMPP, I was left very confused, since that was the first time I’ve heard that Gchat supported XMPP or what XMPP actually is, and I’ve had my personal Gmail since beta (no,...

I used Jabber with some people I knew from a tech forum and it was actually nice, plenty of clients to choose too.

The thing is, I couldn't get any of my actual friends to join, they were all over IRC / MSN and some of them still on ICQ, so I didn't last that much.

YSK: Keeping your accounts/online identity safe in the age of the fediverse/federated networks

As more people flock over to the fediverse from reddit, twitter and other centralised proprietary networks it is important that you keep your e-mail and other important accounts safe from hijacking attempts. Since anyone can simply spin up an instance and host users and communities it is important that you don’t divulge your...

DDG is great, I've been using it for a while now, but I recently learned that I can also send mails from my main account as a @duck.com address and now I'm in love.

Sorry if it's a silly question, but if a child is born on december 31 just a minute before the new year, could he be 2 before the mother gets to hold him then?

It really looks beautiful, can't wait for the public beta!

I didn't sign up for the closed one because I barely have any spare time to test it thoroughly, so a big thank you to all the devs and beta testers!

Yup, I get home between 17:30~18:00 but it's only when I'm already in bed at night when I feel that I can play for a little bit or mindlessly read social media without feeling guilty about not doing anything productive.

Sure, I can play or watch tv sometimes in the afternoon if I don't have any urgent chores to do but there's this constant inner voice that doesn't let me enjoy it.

This is always my go-to image when someone asks me what it's like.

It's an awful feeling when you're putting some extra effort on something that is hard for you and at the same time you know that, the moment you finish, you don't get to celebrate or share your joy with someone else because in the time you did that task some other person would have do that and three tasks more.

It's always that feeling of no matter how much I try it's never enough.

Stardew Valley is a great choice, if you are into gaming maybe some of the android ports for GTA? Like GTA 3 or Vice City.

This was one of the best purchases I ever made for my pc back in the day, way better than any other controller I had till then.

I had the same issue browsing a lemmy.world community from kbin.social, looks empty to me from kbin except for this message:

The magazine from the federated server may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

So I checked the original instance and there were already some threads there, then I created a new thread from kbin and it worked, it appears on both kbin and lemmy, but from kbin I still can only see my own thread, not the rest.

Oh well, I guess it's a matter of time, @ernest is working really hard to fix everything and so far apart from a couple of things it has been a pretty smooth experience for me.

You are a life savior lol, I was looking for an alternative to Vanced since it recently stopped working for me and of course my first thought was to search for a solution on reddit, but since we are on the fediverse now I gave the search box here a go and bingo, here's the solution and it works wonderfully. Thank you!

For me is when I'm talking with someone and my mind starts to wander away, then I realize I have no clue what they just said. This is really problematic at work where I have to write down every single thing my boss says to me, otherwise sometimes I don't even know what task I have been assigned.

It's very frustrating with my wife too but at least she understands better what's going on with me.

For basic things like syntax that I can't remember it's actually pretty good, way more faster than google IMO.

When I ask for something a little more complicated it can go two ways:

  • Actually doing a good job and generating something that I can use (I often have to polish that code, but still, it's better than expected)

  • Doing whatever that I didn't ask for, so when I point out that's not what I meant and explain it further, it enters a bucle where it goes back to the two same solutions.

"You didn't like solution A? Here, there's solution B. Solution B is terrible? Here, there's A again."

Overall it's a great tool though.

This was such a pleasant surprise, I wasn't looking at the monitor when the presentation started but then I heard the first notes of Monkey Island's theme and that made me so happy!

Long and short term, which features would you like to see implemented?

For me flair is probably the most important. I follow a lot of organized sports and being able to quickly identify which team someone supports helps the conversation move along without having to write "as a fan of..." in every single comment. And this isn't a like talking shit, sports guy thing. It's genuinely extremely useful...

Maybe disable case sensitivity on urls? I just typed /m/adhd on my browser and got a 404 page, turns out the url of the magazine is /m/ADHD

Damn, that brings back memories, I had an Amiga 500 (in fact still got it, I don't think it works anymore though) and my first adventure game I think it was Loom, but it could have been Maniac Mansion too.

I still have the first Monkey Island on its original box, sadly it's missing a disk, only have 3 out of 4.
