My ex from Norway mentioned how unusual it was that so many places and people here fly our flag (USA), so I was curious to hear what it's like for others here on the fediverse.
So the backend is coded in Rust? I've been learning the language but haven't actually used it outside of tutorials yet. I'm experienced in C++ and know how to program so I may look into it while I'm unemployed.
I’m a long-time #Reddit user with the karma to prove it. I love the site, but have been absent now for several days. PLEASE, stay off of Reddit for at least the next few days, we’ve got a point to make - that our community is mightier than the greedy corporation. The CEO says it will “…all blow over soon…” Let’s prove him wrong. It’s hard, but we need to stay off the site until management gets the point. It’s ok to explore profit-making moves, but it’s not ok to attack the community and valued third party app devs. #redditblackout#redditapi#redditstrike#redditapiprotest
My pihole helps quite a bit, but some still sneak in. I had to use a VPN to get a cheap rate for Youtube premium which helps a ton. Instagram ads and mail ads are unavoidable still.
kbin does seem more stable. It hasn't had issues for the couple days I've been here, while lemmy has gone down quite a few times during the same time frame.
I nuked my Reddit accounts today. Deleted all comments and posts, then the accounts themselves. The tool I used showed each comment as it was deleted, and it was bittersweet....
I deleted my 11 year old reddit account just an hour ago. I first overwrote all comments with one promoting lemmy with instructions on how to choose an instance.
Just know you might have to run it 5-6 times to get all your comments. I found the first time I ran it, it edited maybe 1/5 of my comments. I overwrote my comments with this:
EDIT: Moved to kbin, the federated Reddit alternative.
I'm 25 and I don't have a drivers license. I mean, I've never really felt the need to go and get one. Public transport is usually the fastest option where I live, and it takes a lot less responsibility to use it....
I've been seeing a lot of pro-reddit, anti-mod comments, despite tens of thousands of up votes on Reddit blackout posts. Pro-reddit comments also have a ton of gold for some reason....
It felt good, right? I nuked mine today after a reddit user was an ass after I agreed with a sub mod on an extended blackout. This place is much cozier and you folks are a lot nicer.
I agreed with the mods in /r/gis that there should be an indefinite blackout and got downvoted. Some person even called me "fucking stupid." That place is such a toxic dumpster fire. I'm happy for kbin/lemmy.
Watching a powerlifting meet in the background. I thought they introduced rules against arching on the bench press. I don't get the rule because it's still huge arches everywhere.
@pseudoramble The rule only applies in IPF affiliated federations. So feds like USAPL still allow big arches.
Edit: I just realized the link you posted was IPF itself, lol. You can still arch with the new rules, but they made it near impossible to do the 1" ROM bench now. I still don't like how wide some people go with their grip.

Some federated communities not appearing in search
When I search for a community that exists on lemmy.ml by going to Magazines>Search, some of them aren't showing up....
How common is it to fly your country's flag, and how is it seen by others?

Why did you choose your instance?
I'm currently struggling to find my home. I have an account here at lemmy.ml, where most of my posts are, and one at kbin....
I just deleted 12 years of content. Feels weird

Why do people prefer cars over public transport?

Anti-mod brigading going on within reddit?
I've been seeing a lot of pro-reddit, anti-mod comments, despite tens of thousands of up votes on Reddit blackout posts. Pro-reddit comments also have a ton of gold for some reason....
