Why are people quick to ban or block because a comment makes them angry, rather than engage, debate or respectfully strongly disagree and leave the discussion at that?...
I'd like to take my RSS feeds from an aggregator of news to a curated selection of interesting things. Interesting newsletters and blogs are where I think RSS shines, but I struggle to find this content....
usually once you get into a hobby or a field that's interesting for you, you'll just stumble upon them. either someone from a community will recommend a website directly, or you'll notice that people link to a particular website often when discussing things, or it gets mentioned in a Youtube video about the topic, or it'll simply pop up in your search results. you can find bunch of interesting stuff by, well, being interested in stuff.
A lot of us come from reddit, so we're naturally inclined to want a reddit-like platform. However, it occurred to me that the reddit format makes little sense for the fediverse....
no. they're two separate communities, the federation makes sure that people on lemmy.ml can subscribe to fediverse@lemmy.world, as well as post and comment in there, and people on lemmy.world can do the same with fediverse@lemmy.ml.
apparently some Mastodon admins got contacted by Meta and met with them after signing an NDA. I'm quite surprised how many Masto admins want to "just wait and see, maybe it's not gonna be that bad".
I’d like to explore a project for NLP based search on the fediverse. But I’m a fediverse beginner and am not sure if it’s possible to index fediverse content....
Why YSK: Searching topcs on reddit was simple matter of entering desired term and prepending or appending keyword reddit. With lemmy's decentralised structure finding particular topic without knowing to which, or rather if even there is community dealing with such topic(s) can be a headache inducing hurdle. So appending simple:...
This is the smartwatch I own. True netrunners know that the tech we wear on (or under) our skin is a prime entry vector for ever hungry megacorps to bleed the pulsing data from our digital veins, so having a wearable I have full control over is of paramount importance. I can flash it with new firmware whenever I want, the...
and I can know for a fact that it won't phone home with my location or other data to any corporation behind the scenes.
if you've already got a wearable, check if Gadgetbridge supports it. it can replace your gadget's companion app so that it doesn't connect to the cloud. that's what I use with the Mi Band 7 that I got as a gift.
I keep thinking this would have been a much better sell to devs and to users. I have always used Sync, and Boost. I tried the official app a few times, but really only used it for the chat feature. I didn't want to pay for it, but (I am embarrassed to admit it) I would pay premium to keep my app. I think this would have worked...
yeah, it's a bummer. on the other hand, it's a nice reminder not to put all one's eggs in one, corporate-owned basket. what happened to Reddit can happen to Discord, too. or you can get your Google account banned without an option to appeal.
Me, I have a low threat model so I mainly try to stay away from proprietary stuff when possible (Chrome, Edge ect) I use an eclectic mix of browsers....
Coming from reddit of course, I cannot figure out how to get to some of the communities I followed there. Either they don't exist or I'm doing something wrong. Like I frequent r/android and r/SquaredCircle, r/movies, r/gaming, r/fossdroid just to name a few. Is there something similar here? Thank you!!
I did have that thought pop up for a few seconds every now and then during the huge Twitter migration, but Space Karen is nowhere near smart enough to plan something like that.
wow, much generous. it's not "my opinion" though, it's something Beehaw's owners have stated multiple times over the past however long have I had an account there.
But I think actions speak louder than words
you mean, like an action of not prioritizing growth?
it becomes clear that they are not interested in the users leaving reddit
they're interested in forming their own community. they're not trying to become a replacement for reddit and never have.
Following the announcement by beehaw admins to defederate from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works, there has been many posts and messages regarding that decisions and what other instances will do....
