I think a lot will change but I agree with you for the site staying relevant for many more years. It will just not be as good as it once was (and I say that with a 14 years old reddit account). It has been slowly going down for a long time, now there is a quick mini downfall but business will continue as usual until thy've squished all the money they could get out of it. And then it dies.
If you didn't know, on DuckDuckGo you can search for posts or magazines with site:kbin.social just like you would with Reddit. The same applies to any other Fediverse site like Kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon, etc.. I was really frustrated because it seems like Google was intentionally suppressing them....
@lurkeymclerkface I thought simply https://kbin.social/ was an equivalent of /all. Unless you specified in your preferences that you only wanted articles from your own subscriptions.

Hey @ernest, I bought you a couple of coffees from your About page link and I've invited others to do the same. But is that enough? How do you handle all this traffic? Is buymeacoffe.com your only revenue source for this project? Anyway, keep up the good work and thank you for your frequent updates and open dialogue.
I wish I could but I don't have a girlfriend anymore at the moment, so no g-strings in my flat and I'm not sure I would feel comfortable buying one. I can however comfortably walk in high heels. But again, that girlfriend who had bigger feet than me was from a long time ago so no picture sorry.
I don't know, I use uBlock Origin for Chrome (not sure if there are equivalents for other browsers) and I never see adds from my desktop, with a free account.
It does not scrap out sponsor babble but it definitely blocks youtube adds.
Well, the question is not really "why" but "when". All big websites will eventually turn to crap, look a digg.com or even yahhoo.com or if you're old enough altavista.com just for a few examples.
Lemmy is the Reddit like portion of the fediverse.
Don't forget about #kbin which has both "reddit subs like" functions (magazines) and "twitter like" functions (microblogs). And all are linked to lemmy and mastondon instances, or whatever else in the fediverse.
Interesting: I tried posting about this group in r/Switzerland, but the post was auto-removed. I expect one is not allowed to mention kbin.social at the moment. Reddit in self-defense mode?
Well, they only allow posts directly related about Switzerland, not about reddit or the blackout or whatever else. It's in their rules, I've also tried to campaign for people to move to the fediverse but most of my posts have been deleted as they are relative to internal reddit bullshit and not Switzerland itself, which I guess is fair.
I appreciate all your work and what you do to make this community take off but just so you know, the new background does not work very well if you have "dark mode" enabled. All the text is white and when you scroll it over a white part of the background you can barely read it.
Question From Former Redditor
I came over from Reddit and I am confused!
Firstly, is Lemmy, Mastodon, and Kbin the same?
Secondly, can I see the same content on Kbin as I would if I was on, say, Lemmy? Like a “cross-post”. I’ve seen some posts where someone says “replying from Lemmy” on Kbin. So would I be seeing the same exact posts on Kbin as I would Lemmy/Mastodon?
I made accounts on all 3 but I am totally lost and confused. Can someone ELI5 (or something) to help me better understand?
Former Redditor, Lost & Confused
P.s. is this post even allowed? I don’t know what I’m doing if you can’t tell. :, (
P.p.s. I am on mobile so if formatting is an issue or weird, that may be why…
Very good explanation, just to add to this, kbin has both "threads" like in reddit and microblogs (like in mastodon or tweets on twitter) which is very confusing at first.
Where are you from? why would you lock a post on kbin that appeared on beehaw? How do you make sure your post gets on the right communities across the fediverse? I'm very confused yet eager to learn.
Because they don't get listed by browse.feddit.de you'll want to browse https://kbin.social/magazines to browse "magazines", which is what they call communities...
OK thanks for your insights and input, I will try to add some more. Do you know if tags can have spaces? Also what about case sensitivity, when I enter them in the magazine panel I type for example #JasonAlexander but il all gets transformed to jasonalexander.
Ha, I see you're new to this too as you posted a root comment instead of a reply to my question. Nevertheless, I shall appreciate your answer. Please consider yourself very thankful as I am very grateful to you my liege.
This is just a reiteration of a comment I left on an earlier, probably more useful article, but I’m posting as its own article for visibility. I hope it can help make sense of the fediverse to at least a few more of my fellow migrants....
