I thought so too, hence the sharing. It was in the top 5 posts of r/videos before it shut down. And since the youtuber who created it seems quite unknown I thought I should post it here. Hopefully I linked to the original content and not a reuploader.
I feel the same way. It reminds me of about 14 years ago when digg.com went to shit. Not the same causes, well a little bit (fucking your userbase), but still, very reminiscent. History repeats itself.
Not to brag but I was around when usenet was the hottest thing to share stuff, before Limewire or eDonkey or whenever, I don't remember, I'm old. I was even part of a BBS with my 12'000 bps (? not sure) modem which cost a lost of phone time to my parents when I was 12.
Can you still read the value of a resistor by its colour rings? I had to learn that during my apprenticeship but I don't remember any of it. Not even sure if you can still buy resistors like that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_color_code
It won't die, it will just become lots of cats videos and girls in bikinis doing hoola hoop, like a TikTok clone. Or maybe it'll turn full Voat and descend down into a fire pit of far-right racists fascists.
Plus lemmy.world is pretty unusable as it seems to be huged to death. I know it is slow over here too but on lemmy.world it's just not working anymore. At least for me.
Never forget what happened to digg.com People don't seem to learn, although they managed to slowly bring the site to a halt in 14 years which a long time so they are not that stupid I guess.
I remember Digg, yes. My reddit account, which I will keep to try to motivate people from the communities I like to move to the Fediverse, is 14 years old. Basically when Digg took the decision to fuck their community. My account here is about 3 days old, I guess in about ten years I will have to do another migration. Although I will be a very old contributor by then (in Internet age).
OK, you definitely know a lot more about economy and investments than I do (I'm a brewer from Switzerland). I don't even know what VC stands for, I could google it but I guess it means Venture Capitalist?
Not as far as I can see but the free newspaper you can get to read on the train or bus (20 minutes) which as its name implies can be read in 20 minutes has less shit to say. They very often take posts straight from r/Switzerland and may or may not mention the handle of the original author. So I guess these days they will have to actually come up with something on their own. Or put more adds, I dunno.
Seriously though, mods from r/Seinfeld if you want to moderate here instead of reddit, don't hesitate to DM me or just leave a comment, mammal, whatever.
LMAO when I saw all these new posts I thought other people had joined us but it's just me an you :-) Anyway, I'm also on Lemmy but it's laggy as hell so I hope people go for kbin
Sorry, I deleted my original comment to see what it was going to become, as a test since I'm very new here (and apparently you can still see that it was me).
Anyway I was saying something stupid about the Welsch crossing the Röstigraben and taking over your area so I would have the most upvoted post on /m/Switzerland because of course everybody will be speaking French.
My account on reddit is 14 years old, I started over there when digg went to shit, I hope the same thing happens now to reddit. But it's hard to convince people to exile.
Not sure all the new people migrating here now remember the digg debacle but to me it sounds very familiar. Anyway, glad people are following the rexxit.
Hello, I was first on Digg and 14 years ago I joined reddit, a few days ago I joined kbin and I couldn't be happier. Welcome to all and thanks for welcoming me. I'm also trying Lemmy but while it's good it's way too unstable at the moment. And anyway, the Fediverse is a great concept.
Yep, we've tried that with r/Switzerland but so far it's not going to well, we are only 2. I know Switzerland is small but still, I wish more people would have followed us, but hey, it's only the beginning.
Hidee ho!
I'm going down to South Park...
Live feed from Reddit HQ, 10 June 2023 (for those who missed it before the blackout) (www.youtube.com)
Good bye, the good place. It was a fun decade.r/videos/comments/1469c1m/todays_meeting_in_the_reddit_hq_bunker/
OC I love the chaos at the moment
I'm feeling a real positive energy and community spirit as a result of the sudden fragmentation of reddit's foundational use base....
the main ship is down! everyone to the rafts and get ready to paddle! (old.reddit.com)
/r/switzerland has gone private from June 12-14 as part of the coordinated blackout to protest reddit's decision to eliminate third party apps...
Reddit r/all page right now - posting a screenshot here so you don’t have to open it
Do media in your country inform about Reddit blackout?
Asking especially those living outside USA.
Rexxit, can't believe I just deleted all my Reddit accounts!
As the title states I just finished deleting all of my accounts including my oldest that was almost 7 years old.
Helllooooooo! Welcome to all. We need mods in here or maybe the previous tenant had a monkey or something.
Seriously though, mods from r/Seinfeld if you want to moderate here instead of reddit, don't hesitate to DM me or just leave a comment, mammal, whatever.
Switzerland - It's like in the movies (www.youtube.com)
