You were right about the issues with and WordPress I am finding it hard to keep the blog online with basic sharing and the AP Pugin.

@pfefferle might be good to put out an approximate idea of the server increase to keep a WordPress site working with the plugin?

I hesitate to share this for fear of generating a mini on their site, but i had no idea the generated so much traffic due to its inherent nature. Sounds like issue is on the roadmap to getting fixed, but good that folks are sounding off about it.

Due to frequent DDoS attacks, we're enforcing stricter limits on the number of connections to our servers. By default, each server enforces a limit of 16 or 32 TCP connections from each IPv4 address and IPv6 /64 block. During persistent attacks, these limits will be adjusted.

HotChilliIM, to Matrix German
@HotChilliIM@mastodon.social avatar

Access to the server and the server are currently limited because the primary IPv4 address was blocked by the provider due to . Checking the server revealed no abnormalities and we have applied for unblocking.

If you run a public web service, do you attempt to attribute DDOS to an attacker?
If so, how do you do it?

Interested to see what other folks/orgs do.

I just read this horrifying story about the cost of getting DDoS:ed when using Netlify as host.

https://old.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1b14bty/netlify_just_sent_me_a_104k_bill_for_a_simple/

$104K bill for a small site, insane.

Thinking of moving away from Netlify because of this, my current plan includes 1TB/month in bandwidth and I use about 400MB per month of that, but in a large attack that could get used up.

Would feel much safer with a service that 503s the site with too much traffic. I don't really need 99.999% uptime anyway.

We thought it was all over... but the Swiss newspaper has come out fighting, blaming Fortinet for spreading untruths about a toothbrush botnet.

Will Fortinet return for Round 4, or is that a knockout punch?
