I see a lot of posts on fediverse trashing reddit, Twitter, spez, musk and so on, and rightfully so. But like it or not, the mass majority of users on the internet still use these sites, and some of us still want to interact with the friends and communities we are a part of on those sites. And there's nothing wrong with that...
I think it's gonna take a few more incidents on Reddit if we really want users to migrate to the Fediverse. Right now a bulk of the migrations are happening as the 3PAs had died, but we'll see how much of the momentum will be kept.
While I was asleep, apparently the site was hacked. Luckily, (big) part of the lemmy.world team is in US, and some early birds in EU also helped mitigate this....
Tbf you can see some kbin stuff from lemmy either through desktop or a mobile app, but Sync for Lemmy is planned to have kbin support too, but we'll see.
My title might be a bit hyperbolic, but stuff like this worries me. I love to read and I love reading on a kindle. This has been going on for a while, but it has now reached absurd levels.
I want to buy a game controller that will work with Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows. (Big bonus points if it will work with old OS versions.) I want it to be able to physically clip on with my phones....
That makes me appreciate the decentralized nature of the Fediverse more. It's so easy to isolate from the nasties
Yes there's always the risk of (un)intentionally creating an echo chamber, but when said "opposing viewpoints" are inherently made in bsd faith, well someone has to put their foot down.
I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.
A great use for reddit is the ability to search posts and opinions about any niche topic. Will that be possible with Lemmy as it grows? Will I be able to Google "instant rice Lemmy" and get a comprehensive tier list of each brand?...
I've found that a hybrid between print and cursive works best for me in most cases. That said, it becomes "cursive" if I wanna go faster, which also makes my writing progressively illegible lol
So hopefully I'm doing this right! :) (I'm still new to some of this so haven't figured out things yet! I did ask this via Mastodon also, but wanted to add more detail to my answer!)...
Like @psyspoop said, touchpads can be prone to accidental collapses. Maybe setting the touch target to be on the "header" of the comment (the whitespace between the username and the upvote/downvote buttons) could be a good compromise?
There's nothing wrong with using Reddit, Twitter, and other mainstream site still while being active on fediverse.

Does anybody feel like the quality of reddit has already dropped massively?

Will Lemmy posts be searchable on Google?

We need devs of third-party apps for Reddit to make apps for kbin
In addition to asking devs of third-party apps for Reddit to make one for Lemmy, why wouldn't we ask them the same for kbin?
Collapse comment thread?
Is there any way to collapse comments and their children in the interface? Seems like a fairly basic feature but I can't find it.
