Do people still use Time Machine?

@kylewritescode I still use it, but no longer feel like I can depend on it. I've added Arq for off-site backups to B2, but it may replace my TM backups too: https://www.arqbackup.com

@Sarahp I'm told this is the stand Apple featured in the keynote. The silver's currently sold out: https://nomadgoods.com/products/stand-one-carbide

As much as I love , their key caps sure aren’t durable

@andycarolan Fiddly and stressful to clean, too. I've finally found a comfortable mech to replace my Magic Keyboard. It took some getting used to (I have some tips if you're interested) but I don't think I'll be going back.

@andycarolan Bluetooth was a bad experience for me. I started with a Keychron K3 and found it took too long to come out of sleep, wasn't available at startup, and sometimes went to sleep during calls. Asking around, others had similar experiences with other brands (or worse). Some of the issues might've been fixed in macOS 13.4, but in the meantime I decided Bluetooth's more trouble than it's worth outside of first party products.

I'm now on a Keychron V3 base, USB-C only. It's hot-swappable which I highly recommend so you can quickly & cheaply experiment with different switches, and it's programmable in VIA which made it easy to set up a couple of missing features in the Mac F-row without having to install Karabiner. It's also a normal profile TKL board, which made it easy to try different keycaps. I'm still a magic trackpad user and haven't found the size and profile difference a problem at all.

Keycaps: I settled on doubleshot PBT caps from PBTfans. I really like their Cherry profile and rugged feel, and doubleshot means the legends won't wear out. Glad I didn't splash out on a GMK set because I've since learned that ABS wears down and develops shine more quickly. I was worried I'd miss having Mac media legends in the F-row, but it turns out I've internalized them well enough over the years. If I could change one thing: I kinda wish I'd gotten a set of caps with "icon" legends on the modifiers instead of text labels. PBTfans makes some with icon legends and some with text, and I went with text because I'm boring and wanted a Dolch set.

FWIW here's my exact setup. I recommend Divinikey too – I swear I'm not an affiliate but of the places I've ordered they've been fastest to ship and seem to have a good return policy:

(Phew. That was a lot of words. Down side of a nice keyboard is I get carried away typing…)
