Marjorie Taylor Greene introduces amendment directing Biden to withdraw from Nato (www.independent.co.uk)

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would direct President Biden to withdraw the U.S. from NATO. She argues that European countries are not reliable partners and are not paying their fair share of NATO obligations, while the U.S. pays around 4% of its...

Russian talking points masquerading as maverick Republican moves. Her base won’t know the difference, which may be the real issue.

Seasoned_Greetings,

Well if the court didn't engage in clearly partisan politics, maybe the liberal justices wouldn't have anything to criticize.

Does he realize how bad it looks when he voices that his problem is criticism and not like, I don't know, taking money from political interests? Or refusing to recuse in cases where there's a relative directly involved?

Jon-H558,

Russian forces have had to retreat from territories they’d gained, and Prigozhin says army bosses are weak because they are unwilling to use tactical nuclear weapons.

Yep. Might actually be the case that Putin is the lesser evil here.

TheButtonJustSpins,

Left-leaning justices have long argued that the criminal justice system should primarily try to determine whether a criminal defendant has actually committed a crime — and that there should be adequate safeguards to ensure that someone who is wrongfully convicted can challenge that conviction.

Meanwhile, justices on the Court’s rightward fringe have long argued that the primary purpose of the criminal justice system is to reach final judgments concerning an individual’s guilt. Under this view, this need for finality can even overcome a claim that a prisoner is innocent.

I really can't emphasize this enough: fuck the right.

People keep yelling "fascism" without understanding what it actually is.

EDIT: I'm not making any qualitative statements on fascism. I don't like it, myself. I'm simply saying that it's a word with a specific meaning, and it's thrown around to derogate the political right a bit too freely.

CookieJarObserver,

Its called theocracy, religious fascism isn't exactly a thing.

Wigglehard,

Thank you, finally some reason

jaidyn999,

Nah, Reddit is fine. Traffic is back to normal levels.

memfree,

from the article:

“Starbucks gives autonomy to local leaders to ‘find ways to celebrate.’ These leaders are the same ones issuing many of the Pride bans,” it said pointing to an article that Pride decor was banned from about 100 locations across parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. Those locations are in some of the more conservative regions of a deeply divided United States. Many Starbucks locations across the country have been displaying Pride decorations.

Starbucks Workers United says this is an example of Starbucks bowing to pressure, as Target did when moving or removing Pride merchandise from some stores. Pride has become a political flashpoint this year, with the right attacking companies for celebrating the inclusive celebrations.

So these workers are striking against policies enacted by their local owner rather than solely for issues with a corporate policy (though surely they have reason to strike against corporate, too, and even the end of the article mentions Starbucks' anti-union history).

Hillock,

I don't think it went too far. Not exposing people accidentally to NSFW content takes priority over giving people a better experience consuming NSFW content. If you want to consume NSFW content head over to an instance that focuses on NSFW content. For example, lemmynsfw.com will fulfill all your NSFW needs.

That's the advantage of the fediverse, you can have different instances focusing on different types of content. And having the main sites of kbin.social or lemmy.world focus on Non-NSFW content will make the entire fediverse easier to advertise to the public.

Kichae, (edited )

Nope. Content is mirrored and hosted locally, so it's the admin's choice and responsibility.

Moreover, listening to choruses of "individual choice" are how you end up providing a server for people who feel no responsibility to their neighbours and communities. Structural issues require more than "Fuck you, I can do what I want."

You can choose to use a different instsnce if you don't like what the admin's doing. Or you can start your own. That's how you can do what you want.

Edit: I do love the downvotes from the "I can do what to want" crowd, knowing that they're also the "my property, my rules" crowd. Except when they're the ones using someone else's shit, of course.

It's not a coherent ideology.

How do we get an instance removed?

It looks like a new spamming tactic will be to set up your own instance and then just mass spam to other instances from there. Case in point, vive.im I've been noticing spam in one magazine from a user of this. I banned them, but they can still post for some reason. Decided to visit the instance and it looks like some default...

gk99,

I haven't had success with this. I tried blocking feddit.de and lemmy.ml, and kept getting posts from both.

Kbin and Lemmy should come to a consensus on how to name stuff

Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....

danc4498,

If we're taking a vote, I think "Magazine" is a dumb name. I saw that and had no idea what it was supposed to be.

Honestly, this specific post is the first I am realizing that "Magazine" is the equivalent of a subreddit.

Edit: if I'm being honest, I thought Community was a dumb name too.

guilherme,

@Azzu I was so confused about kbin using "magazines"...

I've found myself saying magazine/group/community to cover my bases, so having a common name might be nice.

Yes, it definitely needs to be changed. After the boost <-> fav switch, this indicator doesn't make sense anymore.
