It’s that “if I can’t see it, it doesn’t exist” mentality. My cat acts like that, because she gets surprised every time something comes back into view and still exists.

Not an internet thing at all. The writing has been on the wall for years about right wing politics in the US. Since long before the internet.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Ah yes. Fewer consequences for the rich is what we need.

As someone who recently went on a JCVD journey and watched everything he ever did, I appreciate this.

Also, watch more JCVD.

circuitfarmer,

JCVD (2008), definitely. Aside from that, no, most of the goodies are older IMHO. But some which are supposedly bad I actually really enjoyed, for example: The Quest and Legionnaire.

Google exists to make money off of you. Unless you are actually paying them, you are the product. It’s that simple.

Take with a grain of salt any claims they make about you regarding services they will offer you for free.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yes, excellent point. Realistically we should trust no one who stands to make money off of us, even if we are already giving them money.

The devil will be in the details. They likely reduced hours to compensate, which they already do to avoid “pitfalls” like paying for healthcare.

Wal-Mart’s pockets are deep enough that they could have started paying living wages and made an example of it. Sales probably would have gone up, too. But they didn’t do that. Raising wages to a new poverty wage is helpful, but we shouldn’t confuse it with any real change in status quo.

Keeping birth rates high is hugely important for capitalism to maintain its endless growth of wealth.

And 6 free months of “identity protection” which is actually just a total farce.

The planet will die and these people will still be worrying about stock price.

I did love Aero. And Aero Snap was legit useful and remains so. macOS for whatever reason has had trouble implementing what I would now consider an essential feature: at least a basic ability to drag to the side of your screen for some basic tiling (yes… I know later versions have a “tiling” feature, but it is as if they looked at Aero Snap and said “wow, so complicated” and purposefully made it dumb).

Also, just use Linux.

We have so many monopolistic companies in the US that should have been nationalized years ago. It’s one reason we can’t have nice things.

circuitfarmer,

Yeah, I don’t think this is one for the semantics game. There are guys with guns on the roof. There.

I’ve been on Lemmy ever since the reddit API fracas. To date, I have not seen a reason to return. I have, however, seen many reasons to stay away.

I post this in offering to the internet gods, that this may be the first step which leads to an actually meaningful change.

What do you mean “goes through?” It’s a decision from the FTC so it went through, unless I’m misunderstanding that process.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yeah. I think many didn’t. It sounds like a clear loophole to me, and I don’t think it’s unfair to count that playtime towards the regular total.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

It’s not actually about Early Access. It’s about Advanced Access – when you pre-purchase a game and get to play it before the official release as a perk.

Early Access games (=games where the dev knows it isn’t done and puts it in Early Access) already had the same refund limits as regular games.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Ah, sure. I never play online games so didn’t really consider that. Still, it means the player takes a chance with advanced access. That’s always the case, no? I know the industry treats it like a perk, but I’d argue that’s on the industry and not Valve’s policy.

Cloud based

Good way to kill my interest in anything, at the moment.

They claimed it was so we could have bigger worlds

All such claims remind me of SimCity shooting itself in the foot. Frankly I’m more surprised that the industry still hasn’t learned, but I guess it is to be expected since everything is now run by MBAs.

In spite of some of the comments to the contrary here, I really think this is fine. Early access is early access. 2 hours has been the ground truth for a while. It does seem like a loophole, and I’m fine with them filling it.

Edit: and it isn’t really about Early Access – it’s about Advanced Access, from pre-orders.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s the hybrids.

Another hit to physical media as Target lays out plans to ditch in-store DVD and Blu-ray sales (www.whathifi.com)

One of America’s biggest retail chains has announced it will stop selling DVD and Blu-ray discs in-store by 2025. Target, which sells everything from daily groceries to clothes and electronics, has confirmed rumours that it will sell DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays only at specified times of the year as well, as stocking...

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I would love to see figures for this that factor out the general decline of brick and mortar sales. I do hope physical media continues to sell, but I think if it does, it will be a niche market that probably isn’t shopping at Target.
