Big social media company trumpeting that augment reality helps sustainability... because consumers using AR are "increasing their purchases" of products.

(technology which increases consumption is not helping with sustainability, folks)

Some specific findings from the research include: AR experiences that positively impact sustainability increase consumer confidence in purchases, with 84% more likely to make a purchase, 71% less likely to ask for a refund and 69% willing to pay more.

"...What if, instead, the electricity goes out for several days during a blistering summer heat wave in a city that depends on air-conditioning in those months?... n Dr. Chester’s scenario, a compounding crisis of extreme heat and a power failure in a major city like Houston could lead to a series of cascading failures, exposing vulnerabilities in the region’s infrastructure that are difficult to foresee and could result in thousands, or even tens of thousands, of deaths from heat exposure in a matter of days. "

ai6yr,
@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org avatar

"...researchers modeled the health consequences for residents in a two-day, citywide blackout during a heat wave, with electricity gradually restored over the next three days.

The results were shocking: in Phoenix, about 800,000 people — roughly half the population — would need emergency medical treatment for heat stroke and other illnesses. The flood of people seeking care would overwhelm the city’s hospitals. More than 13,000 people would die."

Damn, these naïve, idealistic protests are just turning the average person against climate protestors. This time they stuck a huge sticker across an unprotected Monet, there's no excuse for that.

I have worked in a non-profit environment org for 30 years, and this sort of protest does nothing for the cause, it just makes people tar all environmentalists with the same brush.

Absolutely stupid.

@LanceTurner It was protected.

Average people should all be climate activists. That's the problem. Average people have their heads up their asses.

Activists are getting desperate because:

  • The political processes are BROKEN and NOTHING is being done to legislate change.

  • The public blames lawmakers and corporations BUT the public also just goes about flying, driving, consuming. NO protesting and a lot of pretending there is no problem.

This is a right NOW.
