I freaking hate politics right now. There is no place for views that aren't hard-left or hard-right. There is no desire for dialog. Most people in reality are not perfect ideological stereotypes. But in spite of that, I see more and more of my online acquaintances falling into line with these sterotypes. Being part of the left leaning FOSS community, usually this means presenting as far left revolutionaries. It is resulting in the split of communities and ejection of good faith participants.

not just politics too. the internet has made us allergic to nuance and discourse.

this is unironically brilliant. it's like a parody show of silicon valley, but played entirely for straight. the "whales" are the butt of the joke and one almost thinks they don't realise

    it must be parody. surely??

wanted to use up some cooking chocolate, so i made this chocolate lava cake. doesn't look as good as it did warm but tastes gorgeous for a 40 minute recipe.

    apple/cinamon lattice pie

looked unreal. tasted pretty great too; apples had maybe a bit too much bite but i liked it.
also my first time in ages making dough, it's actually really fun and i wanna practise doing those little decorative touches again

    8/10
(the apples were too annoying to peel for a 9)

shot in the dark but a book i've forgotten: y/a, albeit mature. it was depressing and subversive / sarcastic of coming-of-age stories.

    • the protagonist meets a girl he doesn't truly love
    • they have sex off a canal path, but it is presented as undignified and unromantic
    • the protagonist meets a friend who one gets the feeling doesn't really understand him in a bar, who tells him he should propose
    • the protagonist is initially skeptical; the friend replies "i think that's what life is - meet a girl, marry her, knock out a couple kids" or something to that effect
    0x5DA,
    @0x5DA@fosstodon.org avatar
    • the protagonist buys an expensive ring from a jeweler who advertises it as being cool to the touch
    • (the book adopts a positive or hopeful tone)
    • however, when he goes to propose (by the canal?) he is rejected. he realises the ring was never cool to the touch. frustrated, he throws the ring in the river

i think there was some (recurring?) imagery of a subway. possibly has links to the title? i think it was also vaguely supernatural - the phrase "ghost train"?

    0x5DA,
    @0x5DA@fosstodon.org avatar

the book was heavily melancholic. the hopeful romantic plot was meant to subvert the message of futility.

sorry it's a long post. kudos if you read all this shit; if you have any ideas i'd be much indebted ❤️

    i watched Arrival. good film.
i liked the static shooting, it complemented the film's slow pace. generally well acted and scored.
the plot was dramatic and weighty, though a little contrived at times.

i especially liked how little of the setting was explained. you get the sense that world & implications of the plot are much, much wider than the protagonist and scope of the film. very lovecraftian.

    8/10.

    spacex talk, poorly summarised

    • superheavy to attempt a landing at a virtual tower in IFT-4
    • hoping to successfully catch a superheavy before the end of the year
    • ship landings will be next year because the flight path would cross population areas
    • complete second launch tower @ starbase (R&D) and build a further 2 @ cape (flight)
    • produce 6 fullstacks this year and increase starfactory production
    • in-orbit refeulling demo next year

    • raptor 3 targeting 280t of thrust (sea level) & 305t (vacuum optimised), no heatshield & integrated cooling
    • starship 2, marginally taller to make room for more propellant & thrust and seemingly altered front-fin geometry
    • starship 3, an added 30m taller, drastically increasing propellant & thrust. ship gains 3 rVac engines.
(NOTE: starship 1 is pictured without a hot-staging ring)
    • musk estimates USD$2-3M per-flight
    • vague mention of off-shore launch towers

watched moon (2009). good sci-fi, the plot is simple but has enough depth to keep the film moving.

the visuals were lacking and rather uninspired but itw's moderately budgeted so i can't complain.

i really liked the cut & audio though. simple yet effective.

the music fits the ominous setting so well. mirrors the very unromantic plot

"setup"? the premise, the setting or the literal build-up?
