Like most people I got a bit caught out by this month's and left it way too late, so once again no descriptions or album art.

This time the selection is particularly eclectic, but rest assured it's the good shizzle!

Once again all releases are by , with quite a few exciting collaborations this time.

Ok, let's gooooo:

Question for folks on here. Have you uploaded music to streaming services even though you didn't particularly want to? Why? Do you see them as a necessary evil or are you moving away from altogether?

Also, if you use streaming services, do you use them to discover music to buy on #Bandcamp, @mirlo, #jamcoop, from a record shop or similar, or is the streaming source where you do all your listening? Just curious about whether your music habits have changed in the last few years. #Music #Listening #Streaming #Playlists

With my own listening, I used to buy records until they got somewhat unaffordable. I’ve gone back to CDs, WAVs and the occasional record and use YouTube for discovery because I like to see what bands and musicians do for their visuals and videos (growing up on Pop Up Video), plus I study Bandcamp’s social feed. Currently have a free Apple Music subscription too but rarely use it. Before that, I bought everything on CD and read the free music papers/magazines at venues plus a few blogs.

"Musicians are fed up. When even the perpetually mild mannered James Blake is exasperatedly posting about the depressing economic realities of a music industry dominated by streaming and social media, it seems clear that the current system is broken."

The Fediverse is what I imagine it felt like reading Book Your Own Fuckin' Life when it started, with all the new music spaces and alternatives here actively supporting/sharing each others' sites, working collectively to give musicians and listeners multiple solid options to keep going and connecting everything up. https://archive.org/details/maximumrnr?query=book+your+own

Reading Bret Easton-Ellis again, who obsesses over early 80s chart music, reminded me of one of my mixtapes, circa 1983. I was 12 or so. Pretty mainstream fare, much of it distinctly 'uncool'. Some of this stuff is by now unlistenable, or rather I'd be extremely unlikely to listen to it again.

@Richard_Littler @alexanderhay This wonderful website has a section on VHS distributor logos which is well worth a browse. The sci-fi and record label bits are quite good too. 📼 https://reaganray.com/2018/01/22/vhs-distributors

In case you missed it, just joined something new and would encourage others to try it out too (there is now a signup for bands and individual musicians in the top right-hand corner), plus @chrislowis is also on Mastodon for any questions you might have. #Music #Musodon #JamCoop #Coop #Coops #New #DIYMusic #IndependentMusic #Musicians #FediMusic #Bandcamp https://jam.coop/artists/roberta-fidora
