Trying to figure out how to unravel the political, cultural, and institutional brainworms of ... with cars-for-brains democrats cancelling plans and trying to somehow fool themselves into making the DOTs solvent "with equity and climate as top priorities" is only going to further burden the poorest of kids with subsidies for the wealthiest of drivers. Agencies that build roads for cars are fundamentally unequipped to fix this problem & so is our political system.

TransitBiker,
@TransitBiker@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon in some states they only have a highway department, not an actual department of transportation. Fixing this would be one good step in the right direction, I feel.

TransitBiker,
@TransitBiker@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon one of the things that I am continuously frustrated by, especially in states with lots of rural roads and areas with drainage issues or bedrock close to the grade surface, is that these agencies simply refuse to re-engineer the road to fail less frequently. All they have to do is have a deeper subgrade with better drainage and a thicker overall road profile in these areas. Most intersections -especially on turn lanes- could also benefit. Makes roads less safe & increase vehicle costs.

Shouldn’t you be happy now that Donald gets to learn his lesson?

TransitBiker,

@flexghost any specified criminal conduct? The list is too long to specify anything, but the trial was about paying people off to cover up damaging stories and then lying about it.

University of Maryland Study: N95 masks block almost all airborne COVID-19.

"In a head-to-head comparison of masks worn by people with active COVID-19, the inexpensive "duckbill" N95 came out on top, stopping 98% of COVID-19 particles in the breath of infected people from escaping into the air."

"Led by researchers from the University of Maryland School of Public Health (SPH), results showed other masks also performed well, blocking at least 70% of viral particles from escaping from the source – an infected person's exhaled breath."

RT @openplans NYC's "roadway dining structures...occupy parking spaces or other parts of the street." Does outdoor dining occupy "parking spaces"? Or does free curbside parking actually occupy public space, homogenizing & clogging a useful & potentially versatile piece of our streets?

What are your thoughts on self-diagnosis being belittled by many in the autistic community?

For clarity, I’m not asking to start a debate, just a genuine discussion. I currently don’t have the option to get a diagnosis, but feel fairly confident that the research I’ve done over the past year and a half has been legitimate and credible.

I don’t feel comfortable saying that I am definitively autistic, but I am ok with saying I’m “self-suspecting.” #actuallyautistic @actuallyautistic

So my girlfriend’s ex-husband sends over the kids per usual even though one of them is clearly sick. Instead of keeping the one that is sick over there until they are on the mend, which has been the protocol since they split & even more so once the pandemic hit. I need to ask my fellow guys out there with split custody to stop pulling this type of shit because it’s monumentally selfish and stupid. Also stop sending your sick kids into school.

I do believe people oft confuse the Covid lockdowns for “pandemic”. What folks should be saying is post-lockdown, or “after lockdown”. This pandemic is ongoing, though lockdowns have largely been (foolishly) been ruled out.

My morning radio feed has a new fill-in traffic reporter with that current language trend of not pronouncing terminating Ts and it's distracting. I wonder where it came from and why it's so rampant recently?

"There's an acciden aa the stree where ih crosses the river in the wess end."

Funny how speech trends come and go, and sometimes stay. I suspect Tiktok is amplifying it. Modern accents are becoming disconnected from geography and more about subculture/demographics.
