The amount of AI-generated crap flooding #YouTube is truly impressive, in the manner of a galaxy-sized landfill.

ai6yr,

@lauren Dang, hadn't hit the stuff I was looking for yet. It has most certainly made DuckDuckGo/Bing almost useless, and Google nearly so (although using before:2022 seems to weed out the Google AI crud, for now)

Borrowed The Lost Cause, written by @pluralistic (from the library), and was an enjoyable sci-fi novel, although perhaps too close for comfort to the present, and most certainly more optimistic than some of us here would be about the future; but, well recommended nonetheless. The hero of the book most certainly would be a denizen of this slice of the Fediverse.

Well, that's not good. That was a pretty handy site from the PNNL (DOE). No longer goes anywhere. Looks like a lot of it is on archive.org... but, still.

ai6yr,

@douglasvb I'm hoping it's just a technical snafu that has disrupted that site. I should have downloaded it all while it was up... in this day and age, a necessity to save useful information before it disappears.

ai6yr,

@douglasvb Thanks! I had internalized most of the site (studying it page by page for good info), but it was a useful place to send people for reference, too.

Earlier today in Miami 112F heat index.

ai6yr,

From that other site... 😬

ai6yr,

@HumToTable One hopes this is only a temporary glitch in the system, but I would not be surprised if the frequency of this continues to increase.

Interesting, California has a pilot program on an effort to charge drivers by the number of miles you drive, instead of through gas taxes. (to make up for lost revenues to EVs, which do not need gasoline). They are paying $400 in gift cards -- and a gas tax or EV registration fee credit -- for taking part in the pilot. #California #driving #autos #taxes https://caroadcharge.com/media/zehd2y5s/ca-sb-339_public-fact-sheet_final_remediated.pdf

ai6yr,

@Viss Oh yeah, the lawsuit payments alone...

ai6yr,

@lamp @kkarhan One of three options:

  1. GPS receiver that tracks your every move 😬
  2. ODB2 device to read your odometer and sent it to them direct
  3. Photo of your odometer every month (I would pick#3, personally).
ai6yr,

@__josh I'm still trying to run the calculator, not sure how that work (ie you are paying gas tax, AND this? Or do they rebate the gas tax and INSTEAD charge you per-use? LOL)

ai6yr,

@__josh Aha... I may sign up to see how this works, though I'd be stuck with the "Odometer entry" option, LOL.

ai6yr,

@__josh LOL I signed up, will see how they select people... I'm driving an ancient vehicle and low miles... so not sure what that means.

ai6yr,

@darren Well, if you opt into GPS tracking, they do not charge you for those out of state miles. (but... you do have to accept a state agency plugged in your GPS info, for at least a limited time...)

In 2022 SCOTUS ruled 6-3 that public school teachers & other staff can lead students in prayer.

Now Louisiana will require all schools that receive public funding to display the Ten Commandments, including colleges and universities.

If it’s prayer these guys want, if you’re a public school teacher who wants to learn the Islamic call to prayer, i.e. the Adhaan, to teach your students, let me know.🙃

ai6yr,

@dogzilla @QasimRashid I grew up in a state where the government (and public schools) were hand in hand with religion, and it was terrible. (Utah, which still has LDS seminaries attached to all the high schools, or right across the street).

PBS: Why young Americans are pushing for climate change to be taught in schools. As the planet warms and sea levels rise, eighty-five percent of Generation Z is concerned about climate change, according to a January Marist poll. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/why-young-americans-are-pushing-for-climate-change-to-be-taught-in-schools

@dr_a True, true. I'm unsure if that maneuver was impatience or cluelessness.
