Interesting find tonight. You can load alternate stylesheets. Just add the "title" attribute to your <link>s and "alternate" to the rel tag. Makes theme switching a breeze!

&lt;link href="default.css" rel="stylesheet" title="Default Style" /&gt;
&lt;link href="fancy.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" title="Fancy" /&gt;

Out of the box it's Firefox only, but with a tiny bit of javascript you can make it work with all the other browsers, too. I'll blog about the specifics.

@cheeaun auto/light/dark mode wasn't enough for me this time, tho it probably should have been. Maybe I'll tone it down for the release.

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@cheeaun I remember those days. When you would create stylesheets that didn't just change the colors, but made your site look totally different. I think that was when CSS was really taking off and people were having fun with the concept.

This is the one I think about most. Same HTML, all kinds of creativity with CSS to bring your own idea to the content. The site is updated and still around, kind of an archive tho.

I’ve been mulling the idea of extending mastodon. Think about it similarly to how you currently use plugins for Wordpress. Additional functionality is added by the owner/admin or other users with privileges to do so. They can be added through the admin dashboard, or programmatically. An extension uses a set of hooks setup by the system itself and doesn’t mess around with the core functionality in anyway. Decoupling the system itself ... https://jessetomchak.com/2023/05/08/ive-been-mulling.html

@jtomchak check out @bonfire they have a similar concept with modules. https://bonfirenetworks.org

A year ago today, I came out as transgender. In that moment, I finally stopped pretending to be someone who I could never be.

This was the first year of my life where being me felt natural, unforced, and genuine. It's difficult to imagine those times before, feeling like I was lost in the woods. They don't seem real anymore.

Some family and friends turned their back on me - but for every connection I lost, another blossomed. I feel more loved than I ever have before!

Above all, I've learned to love myself. I look in the mirror and see someone I'm proud to be. Years ago, I worried whether this was the right decision. Today, I'm amazed I could ever have doubted it.

Here's to the first year of my life! I'm looking forward to many more ahead of me. ☺️

Tonight, I realized that when a post is submitted with visibility set to "Followers Only", none of the display that intent other than a tiny lock icon (sometimes). It's not differentiated well.

Yes, it's not a direct message, but it IS something the author wanted to specifically share with their followers rather than the general public.

In my , I tried a border glow for them. Makers of official apps can do better - this is just a concept! :blobcatcoffee:

@JonathanMosen Hi Jonathon, I just listened to your Mona related podcast yesterday! Very informative, thank you. I'm glad Mona is providing much needed accessibility features and hope it inspires other apps to do so as well.

Mona does include the words "Followers Only", but easy to overlook. Better than other apps for sure, where it
appears as a tiny lock icon near the top of the post with no text, which is difficult to understand meaning and often ignored with all the other visual clutter.

Howdy all! In this weeks video we take a look at a classic, it’s a vintage 1985 Slug! The question is: where does G1 fit in a modern collection? Check out my video linked below to find out!

@nectarmechanics Slug was my favorite as a kid. I still have him! A bit dusty, but still in great condition. Hearing it came out “almost 40 years ago”…ouch. 👴🏼

I'm increasingly see tech conferences recognize that "hybrid" events are actually two events happening at once, plus additional coordination to connect them. And I'm seeing some of these events take steps to staff those appropriately. This gives me hope.

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@jonafato Our hybrid events are now separated by a week. The online event occurs the week after the in person event and serves as a way to extend learning and interaction among attendees. Plus it provides better support for both versions from our staff.

Here is a cute one! I’m very happy to show the new app icon for @woollyapp. It was really fun to work with fabric textures!

I added some more FAQs to https://jointhefediverse.net/learn.

Is there anything else that comes up a lot from folks just learning about the fediverse?

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@stefan Stefan, thanks for putting this together. One of the things I wish I had better understood early on is how to use followed hashtags to refine the content in my timelines. That really helped me find accounts to follow and start interacting in the community. I see you're focusing on the fediverse in general, so I know it works a bit differently across platforms (Calckey = Antennas, for example)

Have a site with an invalid SSL cert error that won't let you through? In Edge, just type "thisisunsafe" on your keyboard with focus on the browser warning page and you're in.

It works in Chrome too!

I want the new https://fediverse.info/explore/people People Directory to be easier to browse, so when you search or click on a topic that isn't popular you'll see a red X that you can click to remove.

Now I'm thinking about adding advanced filtering so you can hide results based on topics, domains and usernames.

Also considering adding Lists support so you can build and curate lists of accounts that are easily shareable.

Imma ship this before I get too carried away 😅

box464,
@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@dansup You might as well go one step further and make a csv file export option so the lists can easily be imported into platforms like Calckey, which don’t require you to be following an account to have it on a list.

    @KrissyKat I had to use something called Trumpet and WinSock to connect to the internet from my schools connection. Got my account disabled and had to walk down to the computer lab to talk to a group of angry admins about how I did it. Had no idea I was doing anything sneaky!

    Filters are going to need a deep dive, just like preview cards. Rules aren’t applied consistently across apps.

    Even when you identify something you want completely hidden, they are often still included as a content warning. :emoji_squint:

    Direct searches behave differently as well. Some apps say, "Well, you searched, so obviously you want to see it regardless of your filters, so here you go." Others show "removed from timeline" for every post removed. Others show nothing.

    box464,
    @box464@mastodon.social avatar

    I have to wonder if we would be better off if the filter logic was applied server side before the api results are received so it would be more consistent across apps.

    @box464 Your "Ice Refills" for seems to have stopped working on my iPhone. Possibly after the update to though I'm pretty sure I've seen it work since then.

    So I made a home screen shortcut to the @dimillian GitHub, and it fails the same way - tap it and the color changes for a moment but nothing else happens.

    But both of them work properly from inside the iPhone app, and both work even on the home screen on my iPad (also 16.4.1).

    Do you see this issue?

    box464,
    @box464@mastodon.social avatar

    @LorenAmelang Hmm..it's still working for me on iOS and MacOS, too. Shutdown / Restart?
