Most #bigtech social media platforms allow personalisation: like a profile picture or a header image for example.
What if we'd use these to advertise the #fediverse? Help those unaware of the existence of the fediverse to explore it & experience the Internet as intended.
Use those in-active Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram etc accounts for some good!
What do you think? Could we organize something like this?
@freemind ja, das wäre sicher hilfreich. Aber auch schwierig, weil nicht alles für alle passt.
Wie vollständig die Beiträge anderer Softwares angezeigt werden und ob sie intern oder extern geöffnet werden, ist ja, je nachdem welche Software der Account und welcher Client, unterschiedlich.
Ein genereller #Tipp ist: kopiere die URL des Beitrags ins Suchfeld, um ihn intern zu öffnen, dann kann man ihn kommentieren usw. Um aber die vollständigen Inhalte zu sehen, ist es vor allem mit Mastodon öfter nötig, den Beitrag (auch) extern zu öffnen, weil nur so die Inhalte vollständig angezeigt werden. Andere Softwares zeigen die Inhalte bereits intern i.d.R. vollständig und ansehlich an, so dass ein externes Öffnen keinen/weniger Mehrwert hat. Zum Teil wird aber nicht alles föderiert und ist nur dann zu sehen, wenn es extern geöffnet wird (z.B. ältere Beiträge eines Profils). Von da aus kann auch wieder die URL ins Suchfeld kopiert werden.
Dann gibt es wiederum spezielle Suchen, die besser geeignet sind, als nur die interne Suche:
Bspw. für weitere Inhalte von #Peertube kann am besten auf #SepiaSearch gesucht werden: sepiasearch.org/
Dann die URL des Beitrags ins Suchfeld, um zu kommentieren, teilen usw. bzw. die URL/das Handle des Kanals, um ihm zu folgen
Oder für die Suche nach Foren/Communitys: Hier kann zB nach #Lemmy -Communitys gesucht werden, hier nach #Friendica -Foren
Oder Suche nach Accounts, da gibt es ja auch einige Tools wie #mastodirmastodir.de/ oder #FediverseInfofediverse.info/explore/people
Da ist die Suche doch wesentlich komfortabler, aber die Suchergebnisse müssen dann eben reinkopiert werden, um mit seinem Account zu interagieren, ihnen zu folgen usw.

I was able to make some progress on Pixelfed (hello /api/v2/instance api) and reach out to the Calckey devs on feature compatibility but I wasn't able to focus on #pixelfed as much as I'd like.
This weekend I'll be laser focused on #pixelfed, don't worry 😉
One more thing, we're building an API to power discovery and follow recommendations in our project and the API will be open and available to anyone, including other fediverse projects! #fediverseInfo
So I finally figured out the spotty federation in @pixelfed, a legacy spam prevention measure caused remote posts/comments to be rejected if the remote account had 0 local followers.
It's embarrassing that it took this long to fix, I've been so busy with #pixelfedApp, #fediDB, #fediverseInfo and a few other projects that I haven't been able to focus on #pixelfed like I should.
I'll be laser focused on @pixelfed for the next month, just in time for our 5th birthday 😉
I want the new https://fediverse.info/explore/people People Directory to be easier to browse, so when you search or click on a topic that isn't popular you'll see a red X that you can click to remove.
Now I'm thinking about adding advanced filtering so you can hide results based on topics, domains and usernames.
Also considering adding Lists support so you can build and curate lists of accounts that are easily shareable.
Some highlights include:

It's an opt-in directory of fediverse accounts based on bio hashtags, to join simply add the #fedi22 tag to your bio and follow the directions on the directory page.
I'm also building an API so @pixelfed and other projects can build discovery/profile recommendations.
