Mastodon, I need your help! Particularly folks who can do research in Japanese for me.

I would like to go to the ClariS concert in Osaka on Saturday 5.25. I cannot figure out whether it is possible for me to get a ticket (like, was there a lottery and I'm screwed, is there a place I can buy them first-hand or aftermarket, is it walk-up???).

Some info here: https://www.zepp.co.jp/hall/osakabayside/schedule/single/?rid=138383
More info here: https://claris-room.com/ClariS-Spring-Tour-2024.html

I'm prototyping a fediverse sharing button. Anyone interested in giving it a try?

Feature highlights:

  • shows a logo of supported fediverse software
  • lets you share selected text
  • remembers the last fediverse domain used

Demo: https://fediverse-share-button.stefanbohacek.dev/

This statement is going to live rent-free in my head for a long time to come, I suspect.

https://phanpy.social is a pretty incredible Mastodon client. Entirely web based, looks great on mobile and desktop, you can configure your shortcuts that appear above or below the river of news.

Some screenshots from my own account: good notifications page, different kinds of toots get a different status, plus Boosts are shown in their own carousel.

I've heard one developer made all this, it's pretty incredible.

Boosts are rolled up into a carousel of toots you can view with sideways scrolling
Threads are shown grouped together and single posts from threads are indicated as such.

I'm glad to announce the release of version 2.53 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:

New user feature to search by post content (using regular expressions) or tag.

Added some (partial) support for Event object types.

Minor fixes: Allow unboosting your own posts (contributed by khm), CSS fixes for the Dillo browser (contributed by kvibber).

If you find #snac useful, please consider buying grunfink a coffee: https://ko-fi.com/grunfink

I can think of three features that are unique on iOS clients as far as I know: displaying alt text immediately, block everyone in a thread, and a like+boost button (someone here called it "bloost"?). Also supporting direct timelines and local-only posts on a few platforms, not sure if anyone else is doing that (I'm guessing someone is).

If you've ever wanted to contribute to the Mastodon project documentation, here's a fantastic issue from @trwnh that lists all the undocumented stuff: https://github.com/mastodon/documentation/issues/1211

As an idea of how much new OAuth stuff is in the upcoming Mastodon 4.3, I’ve just prepared this pull request for the documentation over the past 5 hours or so:

Mark your calendars!

The next FediForum, the unconference for the people who move the Fediverse forward, is coming up September 12-14, 2024.

The most recent Fediforum in March had the largest attendance ever of developers, users, moderators, and many other people interested in building a better social media environment. We will build on this in September, for the first time in a 3-day event. We'd love to see you join us and your peers.

More info and registration: https://fediforum.org

Fediverse App developers, would this help you in building out the correct UI for filing reports?

Currently this is all hard-coded into the web version

If you're looking to host your very own single-user/a-few-users instance, you cannot go wrong with . It is simple to install on Ubuntu and works very well with some really solid clients. It is also written in C, so it is fast, with few dependencies. Great work @grunfink, you've got a new monthly supporter on Ko-fi!

The next version (1.10.39) of will include a option to use Apple Translate as your primary translation source. If you had „always use DeepL“ set in the previous version this should be reflected after you’ve updated.

It is pretty cool to see all the different forks of major fediverse platforms. Just learning about Chuckya, a "soft fork" of glitch-soc, which itself is a fork of Mastodon.

Really shows the diversity of the fediverse!

I really need some Swift help. If you’re feeling brave, could you check out this Cork issue? https://github.com/buresdv/Cork/issues/275

We’re having trouble with the “Somehow bypass this licensing scheme if the user compiled Cork themselves” part

Do you have any ideas on how to solve this? If you do and you help implement it, you’ll get a spot in the “Special thanks” section of the readme and within the app itself, as well as a free license or cash equivalent of the license

🧳I’m going to Seoul, South Korea next week. What should I see and do?

Art, history, nature, live music, nightlife, and gay stuff are of interest. I’m ok being a tourist. Day trips ok too, but I don’t have a driver’s license. Plant-based food recommendations especially appreciated.
