i'm really excited to show https://compost.party to the world! it's a web server running on an old, broken phone, getting energy from the sun using one of those portable solar chargers that you may also have lying around.
I should be able to follow #Cara users from my Mastodon account. You can't convince me to make yet another account in a yet another silo, but I'd love to see and share more art in my home feed. Anyone have a connection to their team? Would love to chat about the #fediverse.
Some AMAZING results coming in from India's elections!!
#1, the disgusting misogynist man part of the hindu majoritarian party who was representing my parent's new constituency has MAJORLY lost.
#2, in Ayodhya – where hindu terrorists installed a new temple upon a mosque they demolished in the 90s ushering in the era of hindu supremacy – a Dalit candidate won against two brahmins.
#3, a former model who claimed women must not wear scandalous clothes etc and was responsible for all of the horrendous incompetent handling of sexual abuse cases has lost her seat.
#4, A nebo baby of a giant politician in Karnataka who had aligned himself with the hindu supremacy parties was found to have taken thousands of videos of his assault of women and posted them. He lost his seat while he is in jail
okay so some of you might have seen that Palmer Luckey has launched his own Gameboy clone, an FPGA console called the ModRetro Chromatic. you may remember another FPGA Gameboy, the Analogue Pocket, a console i own and greatly enjoy and endorse.
for those who dont know, Palmer Luckey (in increasing badness):
at one point worked for Facebook
donates vast sums of money to Trump
founded Anduril, a war drone company
that alone should be reason enough to never touch this thing.
unfortunately, the thing also includes an officially licensed Tetris game. so i wanted to provide some alternatives to people who were interested in playing a "modern" tetris on a portable device. dont even pirate the rom of it, play these instead.
first off, you dont need an FPGA like this or the Analogue Pocket, you can get a comfy emulator device for a sixth of the cost that supports more consoles. dont spend money you dont have.
the best gameboy tetris is the homebrew clone Apotris. it is by far the most extensive in feature set and i play it daily. i dont care for the default visual settings but the customization is incredible. https://akouzoukos.com/apotris
if you have a soft spot for the old gameboy tetris of yore, theres Rosy Retrospection, a mod that brings several modern conveniences while keeping the original spirit. https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5813/
please do not give this monster money, and do not give his tetris the time of day. fan projects deserve your attention more than a warmonger's vanity project.

The new website contains court documents, news media, press releases, statement of solidarity, frequently asked questions, helpful resources, ways to support defendants, and more!"
If you take Amtrak and want info on train status/delays, it's annoying that the official Amtrak website is slow to load & doesn't have train status perma-URLs to bookmark/share. https://railrat.net/ is pretty good but has ads. amtrack.live is faster & has no ads.
i would like to make a graphical tool (gtk4) for configuring Pocket Reform's mouse button assignment, keyboard backlight colors (with gradients etc), and probably keyboard scancode assignment. when i get the time. or maybe someone can contribute.
Added a convolution kernel filtering operator for polygons/polylines to https://thi.ng/geom, incl. some useful preset kernels: box filter, triangle, gaussian, all with configurable size...
The image shows effects of various kernel sizes & iterations. Unlike with subdivision smoothing, here each version has the exact same number of vertices, only their positions are impacted: orange = box, magenta = triangle, blue = gaussian
(For now the operator is only implemented for polygons (also w/ holes) & polylines, but can be extended to other shape types...)
Did you hear the story about how $400k worth of Playdates were misdelivered by FedEx to a construction site near our warehouse? And then someone just… stole them? Seriously.
Well, guess what got hastily dumped at a random restaurant this morning?
This is one of many experiments we can do to find a sustainable community supported model for journalism. Meta has both embraced and sabotaged journalism in such a way that we have so few outlets in comparison to a decade ago. Today we need a new model. And we’re figuring out how to make it work by building it, together, open source, open protocol.
I'll be the moderator for the session on "What's neXt? From Mastodon via ActivityPub to the Fediverse or Social Web" on the PublicSpaces conference next week in Amsterdam!
