In America, married people get more than 1,000 legal benefits that single people can't access. Vox's Sigal Samuel asks why people in a platonic partnership can't enjoy the same kind of benefits, and why society values friendships less than familial relationships and marriages. Do you have a "best friend?"
Aw, 50% of poll respondents say that their romantic partner is their best friend — with the rest of the respondents sharing the love for their one bestie, group of pals or family members. Will the U.S. (or other places) ever recognize friendship as a valid relationship worthy of legal status? Here's a story from Slate about Colorado's Designated Beneficiary Agreements, which recognize and protect relationships of all stripes, and which writer and law professor John Culhane says should be expanded and exported. "Great triumph though it was, marriage equality left too many people out of its embrace. It’s time to change that," he writes.

When you have foreign governments reliant on large multi-nationals to develop their #GenerativeAI capability, which involves turning over large volumes of private data to them, it creates future dependencies.
There's also no pricing for the partnerships yet, but at a guess they will do the #OpenSource data for free, but you will have to pay $$$ to get them to work with private data - because more open data means they can train their models better.
I'm also curious about how this will change data #licensing approaches - especially relevant given the @osi recent work on figuring out what "open" #AI actually means ...
"The most effective strategies [to reduce crime] involved #police partnering with #communities to address #social problems in a holistic way and with a much wider set of tools than simple arrests. Good #policing should seek the "least intrusive means of solving a problem" and involves police #partnerships with actors across the public and #community sectors."
Along with support from #rail industry and government, they make a big difference in making #stations welcoming to passengers and an asset to the wider community.
Everyone's a winner! But can you guess my favourites among the 48 entries?
