The idea that Israelis have the right to self-defense against terrorism, but Palestinians do not enjoy the same right to self-defense against overwhelming devastation is either blind to human suffering or catastrophically racist or both.
@Carwil you may not know but the Palestinian authority was indeed provided with heavy weapons after the Oslo accords. It makes sense, you can’t have expected them to fight terrorist organizations for control of they territories with bare hands. Not that it helped them when Hamas killed and expelled them from Gaza. But it made sense to try by giving them the tools
@Carwil Palestinians don’t need deterrence, all they need is to have institutions and a culture capable of eliminating Palestinian terrorism. I do realize that is a hard task but a necessary one nonetheless
@Carwil I agree with the logical point made here, air defense is good for defense, it’s in the name after all. I still stand by what I said before, no country , company or even individual should support a terrorist organization with military hardware. In fact, no support of any kind.
A story of pretend #baking in three acts. Took the store bought frozen Pain au chocolat out and left it out over night, they rose A LOT. In act three they browned beautifully in the oven. The epilogue checked and approved that they are indeed tasty. I was surprised how well they came out
@chowderman@noelreports unless it’s an M270. I agree that more is better but sending just one after they’ve had them for quite some time now seems weird
In 31 days, the death toll in #Israel–#Gaza war blew past the genocidal massacre in Srebrenica, civilian deaths in the invasion of Ukraine, and all prior Israeli–Palestinian conflict deaths since 1987.
@Carwil I wish we knew how many of those are civilians and how many terrorists. The more of the former is terrible but the more of the latter brings us closer to a free society in Gaza
Technical query: I have several different accounts because I like to streamline my feed on specific topics. If I follow someone who posts on a topic I don't want flooding my feed, what does mute do?
@shoshk I don’t know if there’s a mastodon setting for it but the app I use, ice cubes, lets you hide media entirely, which sounds like excessive for what you want. For single accounts one thing you can do is set it so you won’t see their boosts, maybe that would help
@timkmak in alphabetical order of which language? In English Ukraine is close to the bottom but in Arabic it would be close to the top. I’m here to ask the tough questions
Does anyone know about any Fediverse Clubhouse alternatives? That kind of social-radio station aligns well with this community’s ethos. Since the new Clubhouse update I’ve tried to remain engaged, but it’s pretty tough with the UI changes. Don’t want to turn to Twitter spaces😭 #Fediverse#audio#fediverseprojects#Mastodon
Multiple sources are sharing this document (picture 1), allegedly showing Israel's four step plan to push all residents of Gaza south into Egypt through multiple military operations sweeping the Gaza strip from north to south.
If this is true, the government of Israel is planning an illegal deportation of over 2 million people.
Multiple sources are presenting a translation similar to the one found in picture 2.
@randahl no details in the translation appears in the original, my guess is that there’s a page missing. From the first page it’s just a list of courses of actions, not a decision or a command. This most objectionable one is stated as such, at least from the single sentence about it
@randahl broadly the translation fits. It’s from the intelligence office, no idea who that is. There’s no signature so I can’t say who wrote it but it’s not some official government or army decision/plan of action. A deliberate leak of the document to sound tough for political gain is a reasonable guess
@randahl even tough you can’t read Hebrew you can check and see that there’s no logo of the army, security ministry, prime minister office or such. Btw it’s dated from the 13th and you can figure out from the footer that there should be 10 pages
@randahl this is still the most right wing government ever. Israelis weren’t protesting in record breaking numbers weekly against the government for the past 9 months just for the fun of it
Does anyone know what Egypt’s justification for not allowing humanitarian aid to flow freely into Gaza is? I see lots of references in the media to letting in a few tens of trucks here and there, but no explanation of what Egypt’s rationale is for keeping the flow so low.
@tkinias Hamas is the Palestinian branch of the Muslim brotherhood which Egypt has spent years jailing and repressing so it’s likely part of the reason they have not been eager to help Gaza in the past, well, decades
