@gbhnews hi! that makes sense. I'm not an expert, of course, but here's how I'd rewrite it: "1.3 million people trapped as Israel bombs Rafah" because that's the bigger news. Focusing on "Palestinian militants" is misleading, as if this a battle between equals rather than the domination of one over the other.

I’ve been really disappointed by people of my generation (I’m 54), who have started subtly or casually or lightly talking about the Gaza solidarity encampments as performative. I don’t know where they’re getting their news, but there’s incredibly deep and well organized activism happening. There’s something so painful about being surprised, again, by people who you thought were truly getting it, who aren’t.

I know this is really obvious to most of us but as someone who witnessed the rampant racism, sexism, anti-gayness etc of even the 80s and 90s, it’s pretty clear that the current culture war is just a response to us emerging from those patterns! watch any movie from 1990 or around there and it will blow your mind what was common & totally acceptable. We are waking up from a very deep sleep, and some folks can’t handle it

@StillIRise1963 in my experience the seduction of the denial we live with when we're super deep into whiteness keeps us constantly surprised. without constant effort to reject the "ignorance is bliss" lie we slide into "assuming the best of everyone" (lie) and being surprised (bc we're in denial). the experience feels like actual surprise.

My daughter's fiction workshop prof sent her a really long message (many paragraphs) saying her latest story was perfect, she had no notes, and just wanted to tell her all the things she loved about it. My daughter is OVER THE MOON. Her prof said she should be sending it out for publication everywhere. My daughter said, "like where?" when I said she should. So, I sent her a screen shot of me googling "where can I publish my short stories" and I HOPE SHE SENDS IT OUT! :-)

@BlackAzizAnansi the “propaganda” I’m susceptible to is anything put out by the source I’ve deemed as trustworthy (Democracy Now). I trust them so much that I don’t really question the reporting. So it’s very possible that I believe things that aren’t true because I don’t question them.

Nice exchange w/my no-masks parents. They asked if I'd mind if they attend Easter church w/o masks since we'll be w/them only hours after and it'd take a bit for them to be infectious. Sure, I'd rather they freaking mask, but in that case I mind less than the week preceding our visit. I said no problem, could you mask aggressively for the week before we're together? And they said yes. That's HUGE. (Before, it might've set off arguing if I requested they mask before we get there.)

I almost said to my parents, "Did you know Hamas has offered to release all the hostages if Israel will immediately agree to a ?"

But my mother would've demanded citations and I wasn't prepared to pull them up. I know I've read about that, and how Israel refused.
