@SocraticEthics The Long answer is also "No."

Aw. I just got called a "young fellow" on the fedi.

I'm 48. 😂

I guess there are worse things. 😅

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

Corollary: No matter how old you get, when you mention your age on the Internet you get like five dudes replying all going "48?? Pfft. You're practically still wearing diapers!"

@lukem When I was twenty I was convinced I wouldn't make it to forty. It just seemed completely incomprehensible to me.

I’m still not convinced any of you are real.

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@Mrfunkedude I wasn't real, and neither were you, up until about two weeks ago on a Thursday when the Universe sprang into being fully-formed.

@MichaelPorter @Mrfunkedude That is what Big Last Thursday would like you to believe

Wifi is actually the plural form. The singular is wifus.

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@MLE_online Pox wifi

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@MLE_online ah, autocorrect. That was supposed to be "Vox wifi", but "pox" is probably somehow appropriate. 😅

Haha, I have to ask people, because I can't Google it: ARE there any good search engines out there? Ones that still actually search the internet?

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@mishellbaker I've asked that one myself and followed another thread by someone asking that same question, and the general consensus is that the best alternative at the moment is DuckDuckGo.

Ah ha! I figured out why I was having issues with the rollup tool previously. Once I got past that stubborn error, the rest of the comfort was pretty easy.

I think I'll be able to do that technical stream tomorrow. The web page redesign project is a go!

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

Ok, we're set for a techie stream after lunch. This is different from my normal gaming streams. I won't do a whole lot of talking and will have some copyright-free music playing in the background. Come join me in my adventures in neovim!

dvshkn, to rust
@dvshkn@fosstodon.org avatar

The difference between using async/await in typescript vs is that the rust compiler routinely asks "are you sure about that??"

More times than not it's a good thing.

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@dvshkn I'm not entirely sure about that. async/await can certainly be abused but they themselves aren't harmful. It's just a coding pattern.

My only main gripe with them is that they tend to hide implementation of the underpinnings of how a Promise is supposed to work. This is by design, of course, but too many developers just throw them around without proper flow control or error handling. Or worse, they don't realize that an async function returns a Promise at all.

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@dvshkn Oh absolutely. 🙂

So I have this hypothesis that people who never listen to music past their teenage years do so because of a traumatic event in their childhood.

Music became a comfort to them during this time which switched it from being just enjoyable, to being enjoyable plus emotionally comforting.

Hence the desire not to listen to music outside of that comfort zone because any music past that, is no longer comforting and no longer serves a need.

Or not. I don't know. It's just a thought.

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@Mrfunkedude I think there might be some truth to this, but I know a lot of people whose music listening habits stopped at around the age of 17 for some perfectly banal reasons.

I love listening to new music. I also like to go back to the classics I grew up with too, but there's joy in discovering new things that artists are coming out with in 2024.

Whenever someone says, "they don't make songs like they used to" I feel bad because they clearly aren't listening. It's a preconception filter.

Well I was going to go take a nap this morning to make up for the hour of sleep I lost, but seeing as a moving truck has pulled up behind my bedroom window, I don't think the nap is going to happen any time soon.

That sucks.

zalasur,
@zalasur@mastodon.surazal.net avatar

@Mrfunkedude We've got people working on their roof nearby. Second day of banging happening right now.

The no nap zone is pretty strong today.
