Looking down on the Market square in Newton Abbot, the market is the building on the right, so cafes as you go in and then the actual market stalls are at the rear part of the building.

I think there is sometimes an outdoor market here too.

I was sent a survey by my employer earlier, as part of this they ask what social media I use. So from the list of the usual suspects, there is Other at the end, ticking other, up pops a box, so I enter Mastodon.

LinkedIn was included but given how useless it is, I didn't bother ticking that box.

Florida has extended the “don’t say gay” law all the way through high school graduation

This means all public school children cannot mention or learn about the existence the LGBTQ+ community

All the bad faith people saying “this will only apply up to 3rd grade” are part of the problem. Literal useful idiots to fascist Christian zealots.

If there are any LGBTQA+ players in Jacksonville, then this would be a good time to lobby franchise owners so the team can move to London ASAP :) It would be MUCH safer for you.

That is all they ever do, they never actually contact you about jobs and if they do, it is about a job that is so way off from what people are looking for.

How space people see this Starship explosion (impressed it got off the pad, interested to see how design changes now) is wildly different from how everyone else sees it (wow, huge failure, bad that a rocket exploded)

zleap,
@zleap@qoto.org avatar

@coreyspowell

Agreed, as the commnetary said it was a test launch it was successful as it got off the launch pad, the fact it lasted 4 minuites is probably a bonus success. It is case now of analysing the data and building version 2, then having another go.

Oddly compared to Virgin One, which also failed, the company beind that has gone bust putting lots of jobs at risk, those employees will probably be snapped up by other companies linked to NASA. ESA, SpaceX.

That huge spike in fake executive accounts on LinkedIn over the past year is starting to make a lot more sense now. Researchers at ESET have an excellent post on research that ties the 3CX supply chain compromise to North Korea's Lazarus hacking group, but the most interesting detail (for me) was this bit:

'The Lazarus group’s Operation DreamJob involves approaching targets through LinkedIn and tempting them with job offers from industry leaders."

Here's a bit more:

ESET researchers have discovered a new Lazarus Operation DreamJob campaign targeting Linux users. Operation DreamJob is the name for a series of campaigns where the group uses social engineering techniques to compromise its targets, with fake job offers as the lure. In this case, we were able to reconstruct the full chain, from the ZIP file that delivers a fake HSBC job offer as a decoy, up until the final payload: the SimplexTea Linux backdoor distributed through an OpenDrive cloud storage account. To our knowledge, this is the first public mention of this major North Korea-aligned threat actor using Linux malware as part of this operation.

@briankrebs

Far too many people on Linked in just self promoting, if you try and contact people or connect with them, you pretty much don't get anywhere. E.g try and connect with the consultants at an employment agency you actually work with.

A good reason NOT to use the platform, I am sure there is the 'social' in social media for a reason.

Just got a comment from a fellow chastising me for talking about the Fediverse beyond Mastodon.

He thinks we’re dropping the ball on Twitter migration by not focusing 100% on Mastodon.

However, 30% of the Fediverse doesn’t run on Mastodon.

Some server software, like Friendica, was on the Fediverse 6 years before Mastodon was created.

Sorry we’re not shutting things down just because Twitter migrants recently showed up.

I am using peertube, I did have a pixelfed account but I think the instance stopped working.

I am also using WriteAs on a personaljournal blog system.

zleap,

@atomicpoet

I agree with you here, there are many different services, so by talking about the fediverse generally we don't imply there is no other solution. We perhaps want people to be on fedi in their own way, so if you want to post pictures daily, you can set an account on Pixelfed, and federate, interaction is still possible.

I got the impression we were never out to destroy mainstream social media, we are here to provide an alternative for people, The way things are going mainstream social media will destory itself, twitter has a headstart, the metaverse seems to have stalled, some people are wising up to data collection,tracking, data sale etc and look to us.

Stop mocking DeSantis’ performance in polls.

If anything happens and that previous bloated carcass can’t run, DeSantis will be the GOP candidate and the GOP will get in lockstep and vote for him.

Meanwhile, the Dems will trip over themselves to keep attacking their own candidate. As always.

Be extraordinarily careful what you wish for.

Kids can work in the UK however they still need to attend school so the work cannot impact on that.

I think they can still do a paper round not that many people get a daily paper any more.

zleap,
@zleap@qoto.org avatar

@twitterreject @Radical_EgoCom

As with anything workers need protection from being exploited, so any rules regarding kids working should be to put their welfare first. Kids who are working are also gaining valuable work experience too. Something that employers should value.

Surely we need to back up any of this regulation with an education and judicial system that teaches people how they are expected to behave and also that actions can have consequences, either under criminal or other laws OR in terms of losing your job or future opportunities.
