@xtaldave

The fact she endorses Trump is also worrtying

So based on what I have seen here on fedi about the GOPs policies that make Truss

A white supremicists
Racist
LGBTQA + phobic
Anti abortionist
Anti women and power of their own bodies

And a few other things. I say the above as these seem to be the GOPs policies in red states, Trump is the GOP presidential candidate and by endorsing trump you support their policies.

    It is going to be interestng WHO joins this coalition Isreal does or does not plan to create, so far even the USA has said it won't get involved. No one in the world wants escalation.

    I had a discussion earlier, and asked about the status of a consulate, it seems I was kinda right on the fact a consulate is part of the country it belongs to, so the Iranian consulate in syria is part of Iran, therefore the attack on the Iranian consulate is an attack on Iran. If this is correct under international law, it was unlawful to attack, (regardless of who the target was) so in addition the response from Iran was probably legal and justified (self defense maybe).

    Netanyahu is getting more and more dangerous, even the people of Isreal see that, if the UK carry on supporting Isreal and maintaining the current narrative it will end up also breaching international law, even if we decide to also leave the ECHR we have obligations under other international laws set by other bodies, which are still going to be in place.

    Talk among Tories of leaving the ECHR is reaching fever pitch (again), so its as well to be reminded about what the consequences of leaving the European Convention on Human Rights would & wouldn't be.

    Whatever the practical issues, as Joelle Grogan (King's College) concludes, not only would it encourage further withdrawals, leaving the ECHR would be one more element in the destruction of the UK's (already floundering) global reputation, with further consequences.

    I just spotted a post relating to a question about if we had seciured a company to fly out asylum seekers, to Rwanda. Given the number who are likely to fly out at any one time, there is zero need a for a norma passenger plane. If we assume one will be deported at a time, perhaps the government should consider a 2 seater plane, I think a tiger moth was 2 seater.

    I'm going to rant about open source a little, I am so sorry.

    So much of open source favors people that ~ have time ~ That usually means:

    • They aren't caretakers (i.e. they don't have children or elder family that have care needs) or can rely on a partner to do all of that in their stead.
    • They can work long hours outside of their 9-5 jobs which excludes many Disabled people or those that have chronic pain.
    • They already have a high paying job, they have health insurance.

    \Maybe given the current drive to add AI to more and more commercial products, that AI is driven by user content which, the consent for use is rather dubious in some cases. The lack of checks and balances means I could wrrite that my local public beach is say a 'full nudist beach' and the AI would read that content, and probably give that as information. Science or at least the credibility of science seems under threat too (at least from reading posts / conversations here.

    We may not have these features in free software, because we don't want them, users don't want them or where we can impliment AI, we will hopefully do so in an ethical way that respects user freedoms.

    The main issue is exposure, sign up for a computer course it is all big tech, there is NO option to say sign up to fediverse, so even beginners are not given that choice.

    The west has undertaken lots of sorties, missions etc where the target is within civilian areas, we have the tech and the ability to take out individual people or buildings and minimise casualties of non combatents.

    When the Seal Team, found bin laden, they did so with a team on the ground, going in taking HIM out. I am sure the report said there were others in the building.

    So good intel and the right approach CAN minimise casualties other than the person you either want to capture or kill.

    zleap,
    @zleap@qoto.org avatar

    @nicholas @aral

    Trying to respond to

    "Hamas intentionally built infrastructure to maximize civilian death, tho."

    What I am trying to say here is the west has managed to take out enemy combatants without managing to kill thousands of innocent civilians in the process, the US and UK understand we cannot do that under international law.

    It shows it CAN be done, so why can't Israel do that, too, esp as they also have western technology.
