a lazy Saturday morning listen to Bobby Charles’ self titled country funk style album from 1972 (2014 LITA reissue). With musical support from members of The Band, a chilled out soulful song based record. Kind of a playful humour going on too, which I enjoy.

@arts @drummmerandy @vinylrecords great record! At some point I need to do a deeper dive to chart Bobby’s path from swamp pop to this sound

My own miracle morning boost.
Imho Listen as loud as possible ( not ok if your stomach dont vibrate with the bass )

Trivia:
One of my oldest lp acquisition, under the recommandation of a friend.
It took me time to dig in and get a glimpse of this strange and radical music. Incredibly violent and beautiful. Dont fade with time, gets better.

Bert Jansch - Rosemary Lane (1971). Maybe the most Nick Drake-like album Jansch did, if only for the hushed tone and pastoral feel. It’s a record of just warm poised guitar and vocals. Great version of “reynardine” the traditional tune. @vinylrecords

arts,
@arts@heads.social avatar

@mangrovevalley @vinylrecords love his debut, admittedly I’m a pretty big fan and love almost all his eras, but his solo recordings (no band) are all stellar. It’s amazing how fully formed he was even on his debut

William Eaton - s/t / 1978 (Reissued 2020 by Morning Trip records). A blissful and uplifting record of instrumental guitar. The liner notes say some of it was recorded on a 26 string guitar Eaton built called an “Elesium Harmoniom”. It’s a beautiful set of spontaneous performances recorded “in a garden”. With everything going on, good to have some peaceful vibes coming through the speakers.

@tor_haxson @thesizzler @bourgwick @Corry342 Dex lived longer than I expected. He came at life from a pretty hard angle. Sadly his sweet sister Sara, who I was good friends with for awhile when we were young, and played with him in later years, passed several years ago.

- awaiting the imminent arrival of @otdispace. the dead's earliest studio demos as the emergency crew on side A (canonical!), late '66 sessions on side B. late '70s pressing on "the eleven" records, erroneously dated may 3rd, 1965 (happy anniversary!), though impressed that they got the warlocks' start date & a period correct band photo. with love to @Corry342 & his dead LP history: https://lostlivedead.blogspot.com/2016/03/bootleg-grateful-dead-lps-east-and-west.html?m=1 @vinylrecords

- decent audience-recorded of the flo & eddie era mothers' hometown debut at santa monica civic, august 1970, misdated as el monte '71. totally dig kaylan/volman as front-mothers, increasingly less into the mud shark skit sequence, here in early draft, a premonition of my least favorite . stunning & fun kornyfone art. @vinylrecords

The version of the Mudshark suite on the Fillmore album is the perfect number of versions of the Mudshark suite.

My digging it is probably more nostalgia than anything else, but l cannot imagine taking the time to listen to other versions.

- there are times (like right now) where the talking heads before eno are my favorite talking heads. the songs are cool, but it's the sound/feel/texture of the band that makes me reach for it. such clean, perfectly-formed quartet arrangements. @vinylrecords
