@jonhendry @drahardja I read the book "Ninety Percent of Everything" a couple years back - the whole world of container ships is wild and not surprisingly, the working conditions/protections are not good. still, pretty surprised how bad this particular situation is

@Stoneycase @mrcompletely @bourgwick The “3-2-1 rule” of backups recommends 3 copies of your data, 2 of them on site in different storage devices/mediums, and 1 offsite

But even so, actually recovering from data loss is hard, there are a lot of subtle ways to mess it up, and it’s a continual project to keep it backups current and verified. Bit rot is real :/

it's possible mastodon has customized this but I haven't specifically looked. would expect you'll get more traffic than usual but shouldn't be all at once

Most hype strains of weed are strictly for custies and the legal cannabis industry in general is turning into just another corporate-dominated, marketing-driven fountain of midgrade consumer bullshit. Taking a weapon out of the hands of racist cops is the biggest real upside. It's mostly been terrible for OG growers, the ones who kept us all in smoke back in the day

@mrcompletely @dave_heumann Probably not a hot take but the way legal markets optimize for high THC% feels like a mistake to me. You can find some edibles/carts with 1:1 or 2:1 cbd:thc ratio but never flower.

People new (or absent for decades) to weed would probably enjoy it a lot more if their first experience was more like drinking a beer than pounding moonshine

(I hear terps matter more than percentages but have never been able to buy based on that)

anyone have a rec on a reliable pair that will protect my ears, cut out the chompers, and still allow for great sound while also not breaking the bank?

I'd like to have a good pair but also don't want it to be something so expensive I'm worried about losing them

@LostReflector pretty happy with my Etymotic ER20HD's - definitely nicer options out there but they are only $11 on amazon and a huge upgrade from foam earplugs

As a Mastodon admin/moderator I'm not ready to advocate for blocking threads at the instance/server level bc I think a lot of our users will want the connections. But I am going to block the Threads domain personally over AI/LLM data harvesting/training set concerns. I don't want Zuck training his robots off my posts. I also don't trust him at all, and am more skeptical of the integration the more I think about it.

@mrcompletely @drewphish @chopaganda I suspect Meta’s legal and advertising obligations complicate how to handle federated/third party content into their app more than technical implementation. Things like EU privacy compliance, lawsuits around damaging kids mental health, etc

They also make fun of Mastodon every time it comes up and seem dedicated to staying on Twitter

Anyone need a super nice AirBNB for Chicago ? Thursday through Monday. My people all backed out and it’s too late for full refund if I cancel. (Another reason to use hotels!) It’s very close to venue. (5-10 minutes). Two bedrooms and a sofa bed. Freshly remodeled brownstone. I stayed there for at the Salt.
